Subject description: external clock source

Hello I was wondering if someone could help.

I have built a 8 step sequencer based on the mk107 kit and would like to add some sort of external sync like that found on the Korg monotribe, where an audio source can be used to drive the steps instead of the 555 timer.

Would a clap switch type input work or do I need to have a more precise logic signal be needed.

I thought initially a midi converter but these seem far too complicated.
I would like something as simple as possible.

If someone could direct me to some good simple information on this I would very much appreciate it.

Editor's note: This was posted in a long topic in the Lunetta sub-forum. Moved it here as a new topic.

hi and welcome!

it probably depends on the level of your audio signal. in any case you should add a comparator to the clock input of your sequencer to shape and amplify the signal.

is that kit 4017 based? i suggest you take a look at fonik's baby 10 layout - he uses ken stone's cgs gate to trigger converter to create a clean clock signal. i built one using his layout and it works great....
