Anyone have any open source panel designs in .svg format for the DIY community? I want to make my own panels using Inkscape and screenprinting and was wondering if anyone had already whipped up some panel art they've made publicly available

I have not seen many panels in .svg format, but there is a way round this though.

You can download the panel design program for Front Panel Express, for which there are loads of front panel designs for. There is an option in this program to to export drawings in .svg format if you then want to develop the layouts in Inkscape.

One small issue I have found with this though, it appears that FPD doubles up the images when they are exported to .svg, so you may have to delete the duplicate data to get a clean image.

Last but no means least, there is an excellent front panel resource for mostly 5U designs on the Yahoo forum Modularsynthpanels, were the synth community have posted a lot of their designs. This site is also used by Bridechamber to test new panel designs before putting them up for sale on his website.

Hope this helps

Regards
