TR-808 Clone Subject description: Midibox controlled TR-808 Clone build on veroboard |
|
|
Here is my lastest project. TR-808 clone build on veroboard with midibox MB808 sequencer.
Last year I build couple of individual 808-voice boards, starting with kick, then snare, and low tom drum.
This summer I thought why not build all the 808 sounds and wrap those in one case. Now I've build mid and hi toms, clave/rim, cowbell, hihats, maracas and clap. I'm still missing cymbal, but other than that, the clone works.
After finishing all the sound circuits I needed a trusty sequencer, so that I have a standalone unit. After gathering some courage, I ordered midibox core, din and dout kits from SmashTV and started building the sequencer. Sequencers main UI pbc with all the buttons and leds is also build on veroboard. I have to say, connecting all the buttons and leds to Midibox DIN and DOUTS was pain, but it was all worth it because MB808 sequencer firmware is simple amazing.
Here are couple photos from the build and video so you can here sounds and see the sequencer in action.
It has ugly insides but beautiful soul

My Tellun Neural Agonizer is finished. Kudos to elmegil for helping me during the debug phase which resulted in this additional 10 pF on the back of the main PCB:
Here is the module with the two reverb tanks:
And the back, not as nice cabling as others but apart from 2 wires which are a bit short I'm quite happy how it turned out:

Accutronics 9FB2D1B (original USA) which I got from Tube Amp Doctor in Germany several years ago when they were cheaper.
They have a middle decay but I still would prefer a smaller decay. |

After the TTSH got postponed, I decided to start this thing. It's been a while - I took the summer off while job and financial insecurity took its toll.
This is either the J3RK Dual Mirror Core VCO or the Stroh Modular Dual Complex VCO. I'm not really sure which. Originally the thread was labeled as per the former, but as things progressed the name morphed to the latter. Either way, it's a really cool collection of vcos and utility modules, with which you can build the complex vco of your choice!
I tried out Front Panel Express's new standoff utility thing, and it worked well, mostly - I had one break off soon after transporting it from my heated studio area to my unheated garage where the soldering happens. No problem though - a little JB Weld and we're back in business.

Nice hardboard panels. Is that just ink or have you burnt the design into the hardboard? |

hi there,
the whole design is made by laser - i used autocad for the layout and the hatches , the font is mine - engraved as well to the hardboard by a laser |
