I've been using the diode between gnd and v- protection outlined there, but I definately am paranoid that I've messed it up and fried all three 2164s as I swapped them in and out while trying to debug!

I should bb a simple expo vca first to see if i can get that working...

I just realized you're the guy who produced those 808 stripboard layouts, right? Heh, glad youre helping me here cus it's your fault I got into building circuits in the first place! That highhat was the first circuit i made that actually did something useful. Gave me the confidence to keep trying/learning.

Got it all working now, with VCq as well. I know others were having problems with getting self oscillation, but mine seems fine in that regard. I can't remember if it self oscillated before in inserted the VCA into the resonance path though! Could that have something to do with it? With ceramic caps, it oscillated, but not super consistently. Using polystyrenes improved it.

Meanwhile i got the go from Thomas Henry to publish PCBs for the VCF/VCA. THey are available already from Thonk and Synthcube.
