I have a VCPS-8 PCB that's fairly close to the top of my backlog at the moment.

I also have a few of these DIP bar LEDs, which look a lot like one of the versions of the VCPS-8 from the build docs.

But I haven't the foggiest idea how to mount them to a panel. Suggestions?

Solder them onto a piece of stripboard, then add 4(or more) mounting posts on the front side which are just the right depth for the display to protude through the main panel. Use some nice countersunk 3mm bolts with a hex head from the front so it looks specky. Cool

I've had the same thoughts about mounting DIL switches on front panels (which I've used in my "Super Stylophone" but I still haven't put it into a proper case yet). I had the added problem that I wanted them in sockets, so that they could be replaced easily (not having a great guaranteed number of actuations - around 2000). I have the sockets on stripboard and I've cut the rectangular holes to just fit the sockets, flush to the front panel and then plugged in the switches into these. Currently they are not firmly attached, but I planned to use spacers either bolted of glued to the front panel to fix the stripboard in place. Not very satisfactory, I know.

Really, I should use toggle switches, but they are much, much more expensive than the DIL switches...

+1 for glue Very Happy

araldite or something similar, so you get a nice solid hold.

the other method is nice too as unkle k said, but that requires some neat drilling.

Hot glue gun if you have one.
