I spend the last couple of days getting up to speed with transistor matching.
I bought a used Fluke 8842a Multimeter ,& put together Ian Fritz"s transistor matching circuit....http://home.comcast.net/~ijfritz/projects/transmat001.pdf

I added a switch to select between PNP & NPN testing,an LED as a power indicator. & a switch to reverse the emitters,for error correction.
Decoration ,compliments of my eight year old daughter ..

I estimate an error of about .0080, between both sides ,so half of that is .0040 , which should be deducted(I think) from the measurement shown.
Above is a MAT02...under test....this is a high water mark :for sure !

Here are two of the best matched 2N3904's...Pretty darn good ,I must say..well under the 2mv most applications demand.

Here is a little color coding scheme i came up with... Silver is under 1mv mismatch..silver with a bronze stripe is under .5mv mismatch..
gold is under .05 mismatch.
