If you're running Ableton on a laptop, try it without the power supply (batteries.) If that solves it, try a ground lift plug on the laptop power supply. |

there was some strange midi loop affecting it!!
unplugging the laptop made even more noise
thanks guys, its a bit better now, but i can still hear a faint whine. i think its the G2 power supply.
its been faulty since i bought it second hand on ebay last year.
once its on, if you turn it off, it wont power up properly again (make noise or connect to editor) always need to wait 5-15 mins almost like letting all the charge disserpate out before power on again.. weird, and a little annoying.
cheers tho guys. |

Silent as the grave. Do you mean you actually hear a physical whine? I thought you meant through your speakers. but either way, should be silent when you're not playing. My G2 sits in a MIDI loop with my elektron gear. Ia m getting a Tempest within the next week actually, so I will try to reproduce your problem. |

I'm reviving this thread because I'm having the exact same symptom.
I hear a very high frequency noise in the audio as it comes into Ableton.
It's definitely originating in the G2 - does anyone else have this problem?
Are there other threads on the topic?
Is this a known issue for some people?
Is there anything I can do about it?
Pretty concerned, as it's one of those things that is a bit of a deal breaker - don't want this on my recordings. Granted, I can EQ it out for a lot of what I do w/ the unit, but I'm sure there are timbral patches I could make where I'd like to preserve that portion of the frequency spectrum.
Thanks for any advice... _________________ t____

See what jamos posted above - its almost certainly a ground loop of sorts. _________________ Jan

And yes, there are some more threads about this, but better first check what happens when you disconnect the computer power (if possible) or pull the USB cable. _________________ Jan

Right on.
Well, it looks like I have a rare case, I suppose.
I tried pulling the USB cable and power connector for my laptop, no dice.
Did some tests, and realized that when I un-mute the G2's channel in the Fireface Totalmix software, there were phase cancellations happening in that particular channel (because of the summing from the Totalmix monitor channel and the monitoring in Live).
... more experiments with this and realized that *sometimes* the channel would *add* to the noise, but sometimes I'd get more of the cancellation thing.
I'd not remembered that I was plugged into one of the pre-amps via the front panel of the interface, and as soon as I plugged into the rear jack instead, the noise was gone!
Pretty stoked that it didn't turn out to be my unit in the end, but also kinda shitty about the fireface; hehe. I can live with it. _________________ t____
