http://monome.org/aleph-detail/

Looks interesting, least not due to an exposed and large existing community

Could be.

My main concern is about the price.

The specs reminds me the never released chameleon Mk II

The built in CV connexions and USB host (to expand it with a monome for example) are a nice idea.

But no digital I/O (unless using the USB device connexion).

Nice to see something upcoming by the way wave

I always hope that with new platforms like this that they become adopted by a significant amount of people. Otherwise you end up with a buncha folks with expensive boxes buried in their studio @_@.

I've been watching this, but $1400 Shocked

...and no MIDI. This ain't a Chameleon - too far towards the hipster end of the scale for me. I'll pass.

However, it's surely great for some.

It's a shame this is priced at DIY hipsters - my only hope is that this spurs a new generation of Chameleon-like projects Very Happy

I heard one of the projects being worked on for this box is an acoustic instrument to CV converter. Ezra Buchla is a viola player, so he's working on a way to generate multiple CV signals from his viola playing - via analysis of the viola monophonic signal rather than polyphonic pickup.

I have to withdraw further judgement though until more software gets released for this thing.

I can see it being a bit of a must for noise makers, CV enthusiasts, hackers and the DIY trend - but I don't see too many jumping in at the bleeding edge - maybe if something amazing comes for it (some unmissable synth patch maybe) - until the price becomes more reasonable.
At current $-£ conversion, it's about the same as a MacBook Air model which, arguably, offers a lot more to the generic market.
