In the DXRouter module, Algorithm 28 has the 2 input incorrectly routed to both the Main output and the 1 output, when it should only be routed to the 1 output. Unfortunately, this means that any DX patch that uses this algorithm along with a signal from Operator 2 will not sound correct because the Operator 2 signal will be incorrectly routed to the Main output to be summed with the Operator 1 and 3 outputs when it should only be routed to modulate Operator 1.

There is also a minor problem with the Algorithm 13 graphic (select Variation 2 to show it in the Editor). This bug is probably just in the Editor software. I'm using the 1.40 version. It incorrectly shows two feedback loops, one for the Operator 2 connections and the other for Operator 6. The Operator 2 loop is incorrect. The module functions properly with the feedback loop implemented for Operator 6.

These bugs are present in both G2 OS 1.40 and 1.62 versions.

Shocked

Were they put in deliberately to see how much the G2 would be used as a DX7 emulator Laughing

That took quite some years to surface, amazing.

Yeah, I’m surprised that the Algorithm 28 bug was not noticed and reported before. I actually stumbled upon it while checking out some of the DX emulation factory presets. I was turning off and on the output of carrier operators to see how each “stack” in the algorithm contributed to the sound of the patch. On one patch/variation that uses 28, I turned off the output of Operator 1 to hear how the Operator 3 stack sounded alone. Then I turned off Operator 3 and was about to turn Operator 1 back on, but there was still sound coming out even though there shouldn’t be with both 1 and 3 turned off. I started turning off the other operators and quickly discovered that Operator 2 was producing the sound because of the bug in the DXRouter.

I decided to test theDXRouter module to confirm that the graphics and function matched the DX7 algorithms using the test patch that I posted. With a quick test I did not find any other obvious routing mistakes other than Algorithm 28. And only the graphic for Algorithm 13 appears to have an error.

One other thing that I noticed was that the output level of the feedback loop when set to the maximum value of 7 is significantly lower (about 9 dB) when compared to the output signal levels of Operators used for modulation. I don’t have a DX7 to do a comparison, so I can’t tell if this is an actual problem or not. There was a lot of testing done though while the DX to G2 patch convertor tool was being developed. I would guess that if this was a problem it would have been noticed back then.
