Probably not the best place for this but I figure since a lot of you DIY people have made demo videos maybe someone can help me out. Apparently I don't know how to make a good demo video. I tried for the first time last night but ran into some issues.

The only "video camera" I have is my cell phone. So I recorded video on the phone while recording audio direct into my computer thinking that I could download the video to the computer and combine them together, sync them up and do some editing to snip out useless bits, add titles etc.

Well, didn't quite work out that way. I can't seem to do much with the 3gp format. I did manage to convert it to wmv using VLC media player then load the wmv into windows movie maker, but anything I tried to do from that point gave me weird errors. I did some searching but didn't really find anything that stood out as a good video editor for 3gp.

So how are you guys making demo vids? Is there a good editor that is commonly used? Would I be better off buying a proper video camera? Any suggestions for something inexpensive for doing quick little vid clips?

Hi there Smile

I'm making my vids with my cell as well, the audio is connected to the sound card.
Then downloading the vid to the comp, open it in cubase, what happens in cubase is it's automatically split the vid with the sound.
then i sync between the recorded audio and the vid.
After some noise reduction to the cell audio speaking and editing the silent parts of the recorded audio I'm mix downing both to one track.
There is a cool feature in cubase that you can replace the original audio of the vid with the one you edited, and that's it Smile

Naturally, this way is only if you work with cubase.

Cheers,
Isak E.

Oh, I had no idea you could do that all right in Cubase. I guess I should have mentioned I use Reaper for recording audio. Looks like Reaper has some basic support for this as well, I'll do some more research and see if I can get it working. Thanks for the info. Smile

Thanks Smile I used Reaper but same idea; loaded video and audio clip, synced them up and turned down the sound on the video (no talking on-camera for me). I just had to download some drivers and updates to get it working, but I didn't even think to look into that until you mentioned that Cubase did it.
