Hej,

The keybed in my G2X is so worn out that it has become very difficult to play dynamically.

Is there anybody who has replaced the keybed in a G2X?
Which keybeds are compatible?

Is there a technical manual available?

Thanks in advance for helping me out.

Hi,

All keys ? 1 octave ?

This is not for the G2 but this info can help you :

Quote:
The full velocity issue is dirt -- this is located BENEATH the rubber contact strip and will not be cured without removing that strip and cleaning underneath there.

Quote:
You could also contact keyboard repair shops; they can likely sell you single plastic keys to replace broken ones on your Stage.

I think the best is to contact keyboard repair shops...

Hej electromagnetic wave,

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply and supply helpful links and even cleaning instruction for the stage in pdf format! Very Happy

It is the entire keyboard of the G2X which feels mushy (probably the springs?) and has a more or less digital velocity response (on/off).

From looking at the procedure for cleaning the contacts of the stage it is probably easiest/most time efficient to replace the entire keyboard.
It would be nice to get a weighted one but those selling Fatar keyboard replacements do not seem to offer weighted keboards with aftertouch.

Question
Is there a recommended repair shop in Sweden which could do this?
Is there any sense in contacting Nord keyboards for help?

I replaced the keyboard of my G2 some years ago, for its semi-weighted variant. But I found it too bouncy and I reverted to the original keyboard later.

I think the G2X keyboard is exactly the same (TP/9S) but with more keys. I guess you can buy the entire keyboard from Doepfer or any of their distributors. That's what I did.

Hej Albert,

Thanks for the link. Doepfer no longer offers the weighted version with aftertouch: maybe other buyers had similar experiences to yours, who knows.

When you replaced the keybed in your G2 were there any tricks/things to look out for? If you can remember that would be helpful.

I once read that the G2X supposedly used a keybed of better quality so I am unsure if it really is the Fatar TP/9S.

If I got to choose I would opt for the Fatar TP/8SK which my virus kb uses and which feels much nicer. But I guess they are not compatible with each other.

I don't remember having to do any tricks, the new keyboard was just straight compatible.

I'm afraid I also don't know much about the G2X, except that I wanted one! Perhaps other users can help.

At one point I even fantasized about putting the G2 panel and board into a newly designed wood / metal case with a proper keyboard!

Thanks Electromagnetic Wave and vcs_3 for your help.

My G2X which I bought from a gigging musician probably had already seen a lot of live use. It is not only the lacking velocity response but I also think that the resistance (of the springs?) is too soft.

Nonetheless I will check the rubber contact strip when I take out the keybed.

Thanks again for your support!
