I am interested in synthesizing thunderstorm sounds, but I am new to electronic music.
If there was a suggestion of a patch setup for this or some external circuit blocks ( Noise+VCF etc), I would like to build this in kit form or even start from scratch.

welcome Jim

Thunder eh .. that's not so easy .. I've heard some Nord Modular patches that came close, but I don't think those would be very suitable to port to a real analog synth. I'm not sure if it was an (were) NM Classic or a G2 patch(es) .. there may be something in our archives here.

As for the wind bit in the storm, filtered noise will do that. While the best rain simulation I heard came from a vocoder ... where both inputs were connected to the same noise source.

And to throw in some trivia ... applause and rain are very close sound wise Shocked
