Hello

Sorry if I missed something, but whilst I was out . . .

Just logged into RS Components to stock up on some 2N3819s
and they appear to be discontinued !

Same at Rapid Electronics, oh dear.
RS are only showing 1 non SMD FET transistor [ 2n4393 ]

Any thoughts on non SMD 2N3819 replacements ?

Worried

I guess it depends what you're using them for. I've subbed 5459's for them in the occasional S&H circuit (watch the pin-out)... seems to work fine.

I noticed several years ago that 2N5457/9s were becoming scarce - So I bought a hundred of each while I could.

Glad I did now.

Hello

Thanks for the tip, but if the substitute is also
scarce then I am still worried.
Mainly used for S&H in my sequencer module.
But also getting into the idea of making an
FET based phaser.

Yes, this is really annoying. I figured i was gonna try using the SMD version of the 2N5459's as they were a lot easier (and cheaper) to source. But now i discover they are starting to be scarce too.
Havent found anything else that works as good as the 5459's as of yet (been trying lots of subs for it), so yea, i feel bullied.

Ditto (Well, 2N5457/8 in my case). They are still available (at a price). The cheapest I've seen are from Tayda, but they're out of stock now (surprise, surprise). I cannot vouch for their quality, but I've not had a problem with other Tayda components (so far). A much more expensive source that I know is Cricklewood Electronics. I've bought obsolete components from them before and again they've been OK.

Gary.

I've just stocked up on 50 2n3819 from mouser, cost about £25 ex VAT
http://uk.mouser.com/Search/Refine.aspx?Keyword=2N3819
they is still a decent stock 11000+

mouser seem to be the only major supplier with jfet stock. i hate it when through hole parts go out of production.
