I am thinking about finally taking the plunge and getting the G2 engine (yeah I was somewhat underwhelmed by the G2 and still after a year have not got one). When I do I will need to convert some old NM classic patches for live use and I am wondering what solutions have been found for replacing the Clocked Pattern Gen that was available in the NM classic. I used this a great deal to generate rhythmic and melodic sequences - often creating variations by using the mod inputs on the pattern gen. So it's not just a matter of building a new version of the pattern gen (although how that would be done is of interest to me) but of somehow generating the actual original sequences that are now very much a part of the tracks. Sequencers are not a realistic solution as some of the melodies were very long, - besides transcribing them would be a laborius task!
Is this a hopeless task? Does anyone even know how the old pattern gen worked internally? Right now I don't see a way of getting my old 'tracks' into the G2. The patch conversion is not such a big deal but that pattern gen - where did it go? I searched this list but found less discussion than I expected.

The G2 has had a clocked random pattern generator since V1.2. Along with the rest of the random group. Maybe download the demo and see if it uses the same random core.

NM Clocked Pattern Generator was re-introduced some time ago as RndPattern module in the G2 editor. You can find it under Rnd category in recent versions of the G2 editor / demo.

I´m not sure (haven´t checked) though if the algorithm used is the same as on NM...

Take a look at this:

Don't know if it's the same algorithm though.

thanks for replying guys - perhaps my question was poorly worded. I am aware of this new module - but various posts on this list indicate that it does not use the same patterns as the old pattern gen, and it is these old patterns that I need to restore somehow.
