it sounds... it sounds -hmm- just like it should be. congratulations.
i just love the sound of switching off - maybe i should try to ad a relay controlled by simple 555timer LFO to get it even more weird.
or maybe a regular tranny would do the trick - - ill keep you posted when i get something i can show...

Sounds good. I'll have to check mine. I don't seem to get that LFO type
sound at all, unless I flip the switch(not power) back and forth. Which pot is the rate for that LFO type sound Pehr. After hearing your something tells me I might have a problem. Mine sounds cool, but its mostly sounds like two osc. that I can adjust pitch and some noise. No modulation like yours. _________________ "your stripes are killer bro" |

If you listen to the samples on the MFOS website they also have the
LFO type sound. So I would say your sounds like those samples although mine does not. I'll have to tinker with it. _________________ "your stripes are killer bro" |

I was listening to my noise maker the other day and thought it just didn't sound a s good as the samples on the MFOS site. Then I asked Ray about whether the 40106, 74HC14, and 74C14 are all compatible. He pointed out that the HC14 is 3-6V. I checked to see which one I'd used, and, it seems I've been listening to the sound of a 74HC14 frying!! The reason it didn't sound so good was that I forgot to put the marinade on!!
Just thought I'd share this with you Pehr to show that even those of us who've been doing electronics for years make some pretty bizarre goof ups. When you build something for the first time, we're all newbies!!! _________________ What makes a space ours, is what we put there, and what we do there. |

YES!
Just finished my WSG yesterday! Beginner's luck, I guess. It was my first time soldering anything, let alone handling components, and it worked on the first shot.
I didn't get the type of case that I wanted (otherwise I never would have finished building the thing), but I'll put up a picture of it when I clean the outside a bit.
I used perfboard (which I will never do again unless you can tell me a better way to solder a 30 AWG hookup wire and a component lead to an IC pin without covering the adjacent pins) and a variation on ladislao's setup. THANKS! |

I'm still looking for a proper case to house this little monster... I will also put up a picture when I'm ready to...

well, I'm really happy that my WSG layout is becoming a good reference point...
now opg is time for a soundlab (or a wp20 at least ;D)!!!

Oh yes, I will be building the SoundLab. But this time, I will be ordering the PCBs.
I tell ya, the hardest part of the whole project was trying to solder a wire AND a component lead to a tiny IC pin onto a breadboard!

Your dream project, the MiniSonic2 is a beauty. What a fine web page too, well worth the look...

I'd start looking for parts before you start looking for a PCB- I'm serious!!
I've been in love with the minisonic ever sinse I bought a copy of 'Sound Design' way back in the late 70's- I even named my studio 'Minisonic'. If you get hold of the second tele:funken LP you can see it printed there :) |

From what I gathered, the MiniSonic2 started in the 70s as a kit you bought and built (I'm assuming the PCBs were included). The only way the author of the website got a hold of them is by contacting the original creator of the kit himself (Mr. Shaw) and asking for them.
Mr. Shaw has his own website that links back to and from the same Minisonic website, but no info on how to obtain PCBs. My guess would be to e-mail either one of them and ask.
Even if we are able to get PCBs from him, there of course is no actual "kit" anymore that has all the parts - specifically the keyboard - so we'll all have to find and tear up a cheapo kid's keyboard just like that guy did. That was my next research anyway - reading up on keyboard matrix layout doohickies... |

Why not something like the Maplin 5600? I am sure the schematics and the original PCB layout must be online somewhere. The synth itself was very fun. Designwise it was a mix of this and that, but I remember it as being very nice sounding. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

both those synths are very nice looking. and is that a buchla sound easel as someone's new icon? did you see that on matrix also? very very cool. i love the design of buchlas. incredibly unique and forward thinking. he took the torch and ran.
i have been researching how to etch a pcb. i have a laser printer at work, so it might work out. |

download the pdf and there are PCB-layouts and all -
(no exotic parts needed)

unfortunately, i think you'll find the mk50240 top-octave generator chip pretty much unobtainum...

That top octave chip is basically the same as the one I just pulled out of my old Baleani organ!!! I knew there'd be a way of using it!! Very cool.
Thanks for the PDF Daniel. _________________ What makes a space ours, is what we put there, and what we do there. |
