Attached is a physical model of a violin. It's still a work in progress, so I put it here. It's EQ'd from G3 through C6. A violin can play up to C7, but I haven't EQ'd that top octave yet.

Expressiveness can be controlled by either morph group 1 (the mod wheel) or morph group 8 (a breath controller). Both morph groups do the same thing. I much prefer the breath controller myself. Velocity controls the amount of scrape on the attack.

There's a sound example of it here.

This is quite amazing, Chet, even when I'm expecting to be amazed when I download another of your patches. If this is experimental, I can't wait to hear the final product.

I feel like a complete boob for mentioning this, but my natural instinct was to turn up the polyphony and play a section of violins. Something happens to the note triggers. I took a quick look at the patch to try to find the cause and it's a bit too complicated for a causal fix.

Anyhow, this is typical great work. Thanks for posting it.

BRAVO!

Thanks for the compliment. The patch is truly monophonic, passing note-specific stuff from slot to slot using the internal busses.

Mosc:

You don´t play a section of violins using a polyphonic mode on a polysynth no no

Chet:
A violin can in fact produce a certain polyphony.. it is not really a proper monophonic instrument like a Roland SH2. Hmm.. perhaps a violin is a very bad analog attempt at producing an SH2? Wink

On the other hand, what you have achieved here is simply mindblowing.. and I am saying that based on the audio file.

Yes, this is an outstanding patch, sheer quality.

It is also very nice of you to share it with us well done, as with the rest you share with us. I listened to your lecture at EM2005 on the streaming and that was very interesting. A pity it didn't came through undistorted, but nevertheless very good.

A big thank you!
