Can anybody tell me how to make the sound you hear in the beginning of Equinox 5 from Jean Michelle Jarre? It's such a great thunder Very Happy
Without buying a MOOG system?
What are the physics behind this sound?
I mean, start with a noise generator>>filter>>VCA.... or?

Could be, but that would be just part of it because you loose the higher frequencies and listening (and looking with audition) at this sample tells me there is something more going on....

Try white noise > clipper > filter > vca

I seem to remember getting similar crunchy thunder sounds using the MS20 external signal processor module set to full gain. Reverb also helps.

As the noise is being fed into the reverb, try slapping or bumping the reverb tank... Not sure how the original was done but probably possible with the Arp 2600. Or feed a patch into a guitar amp with reverb.
