This track is a recording of one of my first Clavia Nord Modular G2 noodle performance patches. It is a truly algorithmic/automated performance. When loaded into a G2, it just automatically runs from start to finish without any other input.

I had been working on this composition for quite some time before I got my G2X. I had started out using some computer software to generate the algorithmic note sequences. I then would do some manual tweaking to control synthesizers, eventually ending up manually tweaking controlling signals to three mono synth patches on a Nord Modular G1. But once I realized the patching power of the G2, it became obvious that I could not only recreate the algorithmic note sequence generation, but also use G2 modules to automate the manual tweaking signals! That made it possible to make a totally algorithmic/automated G2 performance. I also took advantage of the patch morphing abilities of the G2. For example, the monophonic bass synth patch is morphed and tweaked between three distinct sounds; a pounding synth bass, a sustained bass (like an organ bass pedal, or Moog Taurus synth bass), and a throbbing “helicopter” type sound.

I posted this G2 performance patch several years ago on the electro-music.com G2 forum. Jan (Blue Hell) was kind enough at the time to load it into one of his G2 Engines and broadcast it during a New Year’s electro-music.com event. It was a thrill to hear my music broadcast on the internet for the first time! A recording of that is still here of electro-music.com I think… But I don’t think that it was directly associated with my name. So, I decided to go ahead and make a new post and upload my audio copy of this music.

I remember it well :-)

Nice track!

It was played I think on the first New Year's Eve concert we did?

And there should be a recording of it somewhere indeed - but I could not find it.

Cool

That's how it all started with the event streaming.

That's some clean sounds coming from that composition, not to mention, the composition sounds good and also makes sense most of the time. XD

Thanks for listening and for your comment.

I think that this completely machine generated/controlled track isn’t half bad, if I may be so bold as to say so myself. Wink It sure was a lot of fun and very satisfying to patch this on the G2 and get it to work as well as I wanted.
