So someone asked me to make a Bingo set in a steampunk theme. I am taking the Mr. Obvious route and using gears for the Bingo chips. Can't go wrong with gears.

I'm using the library for gears that comes bundled with the OpenSCAD programming language that I enjoy. As for the boards, I'm still a bit uncertain. i've only printed nine chips and I'll stop there in case there is a size change. They are printed in Aqua Translucent PETG (soda bottle plastic).

Here is an image of a car body design that I came up with by playing around with sinusoids. I evolved the design too, and will post that later. It turned into a dune buggy of all things!

This is a shape that I created when exploring the Art Deco theme. It is styled after a Shure MV5, Shure MV51, and Shure 55 microphone. That's where the ribs and circular features come from. The rest is sines and cosines and chopping off the part below zero. Neat huh?

Les

p.s. it is intended to be an automobile part like a speaker cover, a wiring harness, or an air conditioner vent.

They quit making my favorite guitar picks. I was pissed. After a few days, I fired up Solidworks, recreated my picks and printed them on my little 3D printer. The PLA filament I used is very similar in stiffness and durability to celluloid. They work great! I printed 100 of them. Yea!!! That is power.

You said it - that is power, AKA empowerment. Your guitiar pick example is a clear win-win for us all. I'm suew you'll be giving some away as 3D Printing demos? "Oh yes I'd like another 100 of my favorite guitar pick please!" cool cool!

This weekend I designed a robot arm - it's almost all plastic and I have all the parts at home!

The arm is based on four planetary gear sets of the type shown here:

http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:462700

which I designed for people to print. I modified that design to put it in an enclosure, drive the center "sun" gear with a NEMA 17 motor, and send the output torque to the outer ring. there are four such rings and misc pieces for various reasons on the robot. The robot does not yet have an end tool.

That arm looks wicked Les! Would be interesting to see it in action if you manage to print it all up, I can imagine it's a lengthy and tricky print!

Yeah, Stefan, It's a long term project for sure! In this latest version shown here there are only two motors. belts and free-dangling actuator account for the rest. This is a more limited yet surprisingly capable arrangement.

In this GIF image we see 30 snapshots of Ivan using some pretty simple trig equations to position his toolhead close to a randomly positioned red ball. Pretty cool how it works really.

That's a great share @Inventor. I've seen similar files on Pinshape as well like this: https://pinshape.com/items/26275-3d-printed-planetary-gears-11

The university that I recently joined (Adult education) just got a sweet 3d printer as well so I can't wait to test it out Smile

In this image we see a vase ready to be rendered for 3D printing. Due to the nature of the form, it looks like it's name: "Three Pregnant Women". I may print it out when I have more filament.

The intention with this work was to make music with a 3D print. You can see that the shape is made of sinusoids. These have a tendency of causing the rods and other structures of the printer to resonate, making sounds as it prints.
Then I can record it and speed it up to make part of a song.

TY Jan! Everyone seems to like it. I call it "Curvitude". To me it is reminiscent of the female form during pregnancy, so a lovely shape.
