It probably didn't like the inductive load formed by the deflection coil. I once fried an amp with that as well (not with a TV BTW, but I used a coil to excite guitar strings). _________________ Jan

What Peter Sellars??
This phrase was made famous by Peter Sellers in the movie "The Party". It was supposed to stimulate a parrot to interact with Peter and eat the seeds that Peter was "bombarding" the bird with. It didn't work, but the phrase lives on thru the fans of "The Party" which use "Birdy num num" for no other reason than to remind each other of the movie so they can start crackin up !!! _________________ homepage - blog - forum - youtube

re birdy num num
in the party there is a scene where Peter Seller is using the domotic system...
There is an oscilloscope that react to voice.... some sort of audio visualization system... an the "birdy num num" sentence is amplified to the entire house...

Subject description: Help with B&W centron
Hello all
First post here.
Currently building my modular so there has been endless discussions that have been very helpful.
So.
I was given a Princess battery powered portable B&W tv and modded it to the censtron specs. The unit was working beautifully out of some of my reaktor patches however i have seem to have broken it somehow. The range of the signal has diminished to almost nothing, even when i increase amplitude. You can see that it is at its full range because it brick walls only a centermetre from bound to bound. This is on both modes A and B
This is the case for battery power and using the AC adaptor.
Ive scouted around a little (with full safety precautions) but i cant seem to source the problem.
Is this what happened when your coils blew your set danny?
Anyone else have some ideas?

I vaguely remember from the old days, I don't know if it is written somewhere in this thread, there could be an issue with the high voltage circuit when the deflection coil is disconnected, and that a dummy coil, or a load at least, would be needed.

finally got back around to this
trying to finish all the 1/2 done projects lying around
well she works now
just thought id let yall know
tis a cool little unit
i hooked up the iinternal speaker so i can viz all t
the tv and radio bands
as well as the music i pump through it
thanks for your help blue hell
in the end it looks like i may have burnt out a channel in my amp
so i started using my monster amp which is build like a brick shithouse

I stumbled upon this thread while doing a Google search for keyboard circuit bending. While all of the most important guidelines on safety have been covered more than sufficiently and multiple times, there is one noteworthy thing to add: The CRT picture tube is not the only potential source of X-radiation. Other tubes (valves) on the boards and chassis of older sets, especially color sets from the early 1970's can also work their way under your skin; especially when the circuit has been MODIFIED, the cover is off of the back of the set, and the curious experimenter is in close proximity to his or her creation, tweaking away at trim pots and what-have-you. Also remember that even if the radiation only turns out to be at a level high enough to equate a sunburn REMEMBER THAT X-RAYS ARE INVISIBLE. Sunburns on the corneas of a person's eyes are all but unheard of because, of course, we instinctively close our eyes to a bright light--- not so, unfortunately to X-rays.
Some interesting info here:

OK, OK, I've put my hands in my pockets so as not to wag my finger anymore; you may be wondering how I"m typing, but anyway, Here's a cool thing that a timid soul like me may find kind of entertaining: take an ordinary magnet, the stronger the better, and hold it against the front of the CRT screen of an older color TV, Depending on the polar pattern of the magnet, it will create glowing rainbow like spectral patterns on the screen even for awhile after the the magnet has been removed. Try taking a video camera and pointing it directly at a CRT monitor that it has been connected to.

Hey everybody!
I was perusing through the nets for some bending info and came across this forum post and instantly knew that I had found my next project. I saw a small cheap portable tube T.V. set the other day I'm going to try this with. I would like to know, though, if anyone has tried to output a pure sine wave to the set. Does it produce a pure wave on the screen? All the shots I have seen are of music. I'm wondering how accurate this thing is as far as the actual visual frequency of the wave produced or is it just random noise similar to the frequency. If my question makes any sense to you, thanks.
And just to add, I know that I could buy an oscilloscope for cheap, but what's the fun in that?
What you see is like a oscilloscope without any kind of sync. Don't expect accuracy or anything like that. It's good for interesting images coordinated with the sound. _________________ --Howard

Thanks! It's amazing what you can do with a few pieces of junk and a soldering gun. ^^
Unfortunately it's not my own music. Slagsmålsklubben is actually quite huge in Sweden and all over Europe too I think. But soon I'll have gathered enought instruments and bent them too make my own music!
I know nothing about circuit bending and would probably be way too scared to mess with a TV like that, but I just wanted to say this thread is really cool.
I remember seeing something like this on instructables a while ago and built one on because of it. Nothing to impressive, I used a small white Quasar TV and added a 1/4" mono jack for input. I'll upload some pictures and a video later for anyone who likes that stuff.

Broken Links Subject description: Fix?
Some of these links are broken on how to make an oscilloscope the safe way. I am sure that I no death wish in mind and would like something to put together to measure drops in voltage.
