Hey everyone,

I am not sure if this is the right place to ask this, so please feel free to correct me.

Just curious if there's any place to discuss advanced DSP topics such as emulating old synths.
A good place to start would be emulating MC-202 or SH-101. They sound quite nice and I got an engine so it's extremely easy to carry around. However, I couldn't really find any patch related with these two old beasts

I can get an MC-202 from a mate to at least give it a go, but it would definitely be helpful if you guys have any insight about it

P.S: It fills me with pleasure to see the patches made in 98-99, much love to you all.

Cheers
C

I've moved it to Nord Modular G2 Discussion ..can always move it again when such would seem appropriate.

Sounds about right, thanks for this.

Another very interesting sound design idea would be to emulate Eventide DSP4000 style fx. I never had one but I think it has some sort of patching interface as well hence should be possible to port it to G2 maybe?

Hi vou!

You can download one patch from 3phase for SH-101 here :
http://www.electro-music.com/forum/post-122889.html#122889

2 topics about MC202 and SH-101 :
http://www.electro-music.com/forum/topic-2724-0.html
http://www.electro-music.com/forum/topic-45203-0.html

I think it's best to study each part individually. Especially the filter. Here is a citation from 3phase to resume it :
Quote:
what makes it impossible to simulate that very same sound from the 101 or pro one is an extremly high freq range digital systems cant really simulate..
a fast analog envelope on a resonant curtis filter is a real sharp transient... the classical short analog filtersnap cant be propperly simulated with just 96k...

You can search the forum for discussions about CEM3396 and CEM filter. Or other discussions about the famous ladder filter. Or this topic about the 303 :
http://www.electro-music.com/forum/topic-10430-0.html

Here is one topic about Oscillators :
http://www.electro-music.com/forum/topic-65409-0.html

I also remember reading some topics about the Eventide. I am sure the forum contains a lot of other information on all these topics. But I'm still interested in developing them! Smile

Hi Electromagnetic wave!

Thanks for this, I actually didn't see that patch before so definitely useful. I get what he means by 96k, fair point.

I'll check the patch out and report back here, also found some delay patches that could be useful to emulate the Squarepusher Go Plastic! style delays Smile
