From the EM Nord Modular mailing list :

Hey folks,

Here's another solution for a module I wish the nord g2 had. It's g2 panel knob & button module. It has a button and, guess what, a knob. each has an input and output (control in/out for knob and gate in/out for button).

Since we do not have such a module, here's the next best thing (see pch2). We do have level sequencers so my trick involves using one (&assigning only step1 of it to the g2 panel) - it's looped into itselft, thus it's always on step 1.

Now you can trigger the gate using the button (page A1-button1), and send a control signal (right now to an output for debugging purposes) somewhere else.

I find this patch useful with Albeton (knob selects track clip (it send midi cc out), button plays this track or stops it (it sends midi note out). the only difference, is I have 16 of such assignments one for each ableton track.

Let me know what you think, & if you find it useful. Please put this up on electro-music for me.
/Dasz

Brilliant!
This is exactly what I needed. Now if only there was a way to put labels (other than step 1, step 2 etc) on the level controls.
Thanks,

I got this from Dasz via email:

Quote:
Ah, well the debug modules are only used for testing .. the 2out module just displays the level of the knob (step1 knob assigned to page A1-knob1), the env module is used to test the button (step 1 button also assigned to page A1-knob12(button).

These gray modules can be tossed.

The whole point is the seqeuncer which is used to assign a knob and button so each can do completely differnt functions (normally the knob and button work together, like in a mixer, the knob is the level and the button is the mute). this functionality is not really present in the g2. you can't assign a g2 panel knob to do one thing and a g2 panel button to do something completely different.

the yellow circuit solves this by looping a seq on step thus step 1 level and step1 button are always output (and since we assign step1 to the panel, we get a knob and button - the knob output can control cutoff for example and the button can trigger notes, or).

I'm not sure what the advantage of this one is. If you're using it mainly for controlling external gear via midi, why not just use a mix 8-1 fader, and assign cc's directly to each fader? That way you can at the very least name the fader/button combo, and the fader and buttons still work independently of each other.

hi,
http://electro-music.com/forum/topic-25262.html shows a patch that allows for independently assign and name a knob and a button to the frontpanel. it also emulates an incremental controller with the frontpanel knob, but no need to use it that way.
