G2 Driver Install problem |
|
|
Since last year , i could only install the G2 Engine Driver on 1 computer with Window98SE.
On my second computer it was no able to find the drive on CD or the update (both are same files).
I have changed to XP same problem
I have bought a new pci card with usb 2.0 same problem .
But Now i have found the solution
When Install wizard is asking to search the driver.
Eject the G2 driver CD first and put it again in the computer .
Only then, the install wizard is able to find and install the driver.
It automatically start loading the driver from CD.
Standard procedure of searching the driver on a medium, is not working.
There must be an error in the inf file.
It means you can never install the downloaded driver.
(Hi Blue Hell , if useful transfer it to FAQ) _________________ Artworks Music Computer |

Ok thanks, seems like something to try for people having problems.
I moved it to the FAQ.
I never had this problem though as I somehow never installed the driver from a CD - but I don't remember exactly how I did it, too long ago :-)
Probably you could copy the driver stuff from the CD to some harddisk as well and then install it manualy.

Originally, my laptop wouldn't find the G2 itself (unknown device).
So I added a USB2.0 PCMCIA card to my laptop. Which worked great.
But I recently had to reclaim a PCMCIA slot, so I began experimenting with the Laptop's ports again. I added a powered USB hub, and Voila! It now works great on the laptop's built-in USB1.1 ports.
I should post this in the other older thread about USB problems also... |

I'm speaking about PC release .
When you copy the driver to the a drive then you have the problem.
The wizard is turning in endless loop end never find the driver (nmg2usn.inf , nmg2usb.sys)
in the folder in which you put the files.
When you put the CD before installing the driver the wizard is not able to
find the driver to.
When you have the frame open where windows is asking where searching the driver, and you eject and put the cd in the computer again. The autorun of the CD is starting to load the driver without waiting your mouse click where to search the driver.
It is not a very clean procedure..... _________________ Artworks Music Computer |

i had the same problem installing the driver on my pc notebook, but it went half-wrong, i guess. the driver had been installed apparently. however, the G2 was not recognised.
i have removed everything that refers to G2 (and my other nord modular) from the pc, i think. but still, when i connect the usb and switch on the G2, the notebook doesn't even bother to tell me new hardware has been detected.
so i guess, somewhere deep in my notebook, the G2 is still there?
any suggestions what i should do to solve this?
Thanks. |

Welkom Leo G2.
Assuming you are using windows XP. In that case the driver is located in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers and it's called nmg2usb.sys. For win98 it will have the same name I think but it might be in some other folder.
When you did a recent install of the driver you might first want to try a windows system restore (assuming XP), but when its been a while and you installed several softwares since (or it's not XP) ...
I can't find a proper de-install for the driver ... you could try renaming that file and see what happens when you reboot the computer. When thing are getting too weird you can always boot in safe mode and restore the name then. _________________ Jan

thanks! (for the welcome)
after all, i think i had removed the driver properly. i even followed the suggestion in another thread, to temporarily remove all usb adapters from system hardware.
now, i took the G2 to my other pc (which has the driver and software properly installed), but still theG2 is not noticed by pc.
i have checked the cable by plugging it into a camera which was noticed immediately, so i guess something is wrong within the G2, or with this particular combination of G2/cable/pc, although it has worked briefly.
am i overlooking something? i think not?! |

Don't think you are overlooking anything ... as you said in another posting "this is not nice". You'll have to contact Clavia about it, this is something that happens occasionally and it apparently can't be solved without Clavia's help.
I Feell sorry for you (and am glad it never happened to me (knock on wood)).
Please keep us informed, it won't help you a bit of course but it might help others later. _________________ Jan

We can't blame Clavia for *everything* Autorun simply is a anoying little bitch (that fortunately can be turned off!) and while USB is a very nice system most of the time it has some rather anoying aspects to it, everything goes to hell if you do the connecting/switching on/installing/rebooting squaredance in the wrong order.
In XP you can make a restorepoint thingy and rollback and try again if it all goes wrong, b.t.w. _________________ Kassen |

when it gets solved in a nice way (read: cheaply), it's ok by me.
i always feel like getting rid of it, when shit happens, but i really like this synth. the sound and the controls.
we'll see. and yes, i will keep you posted. |

got word on tuesday, that the G2 needs to be returned to Clavia for repair. so, i guess it will take some time, but then it's nice to have it looked at by the people who build the clavia synths, a safe idea, i guess. |

My Windows 98SE PC is refusing to recognise the G2 USB drivers
Whenever I try to update the driver, I browse to the folder containing the driver and click OK to select it then get a pop up saying 'The specified location does not contain information about your hardware'
Does anyone know why this might be or what I can do to get them installed? _________________ Jez
