I got this one just now:

Quote:

The following message was sent to you from a visitor to your
page on MP3.com. MP3.com is not responsible for its content.
____________________________________________________________

Dear Elektro 80,

You may be getting a lot of email from different companies inviting you to transfer your mp3.com files to their sites before mp3.com closes its artist pages as of Dec. 2nd. To be different from the crowd, I offer software and easy web tutorials you can use on your website or desktop for selling your downloads, gathering fanmail and other things most artists with a streaming webpage will find highly useful. http://www.MuSeeks-Perl-Java-CGI-Scripts.com. I also have a high traffic site very close in design and architecture to the original mp3.com site. http://www.MuSeeks.com.

We offer free artist pages, and will host your MP3 files with free and paid plans, Top 40 Charts, fast and efficient page-loading speed. Your pages are specially optimized so that they will be spidered frequently by the major search engines such as Yahoo and Google to help you get found easily.

You can also list yourself cheaply on our high-traffic Major Label Artists page at http://Museeks.com/register_yourself.

Thanks,C.Marius, Marketing Director - www.MuSeeks.com

mailto:ClintMariusii@yahoo.com

Note: This mailing to mp3.com artist members only.

They have had some stalkerbot skimming the artist pages at mp3.com

Heavens, draw blood and the vultures swoop. What a world.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying vultures in a uniformly negative way, let me use the word "opportunists," which really has no negative or positive spin. At least not as I use it.

I think that the dissolution of MP3.COM will most likely spawn a large number of alternatives who will all struggle to compete for artists, but again, one has to ponder how they would benefit from it. I've grown to be quite suspicious of "goodness of one's heart" scenarios.

I spent twenty minutes or so trying to register with them last week to no avail. Did get a quick response as to why though:

Quote:
.....The site problem was just fixed. Thanks for your notice. Please re-enter your page data,
and your artist page should save and start allowing you to add songs. Let us know of any problems asap.

It was one five-letter bug in our program ( next; inside an else statement, duh )
...you can edit the page later in a couple days when we start hosting pictures as well as audio files. Pehaps even by tomorrow!

Clint,
Museeks.com

I've yet to go back since I found other sites to upload to in the meantime.
I'll hold off on passing a verdict on them, especially since I got an immediate email reply to my problem report.

I've gotten their notice several times over the years.
Best I can tell, they give you a page, but you have to pay if you want to put any tunes on there.

A-ha. What a strange situation, everyone looking for homes for their music online.
