Ashley (Bill) Cooper
It is with great sadness to relate that Ashley (Bill) Cooper died in his sleep from a heart attack this past Sunday morning, March 30th. Bill was a member of electro-music.com. He was registered with the name ACVibes. He joined up just a week ago.

I met Bill about 10 days ago. He was an invited audience member at the Art Music Coffee House. He was a long dear friend of Don Slepian. Bill and I have since exchanged email messages, and we were planning to visit each other's studios in the coming days.

Bill has been involved in electronic music since the late 1960's. He told me he had played the Buchla 200 Series synthesizers at Sacramento State University, and has been composing ever since. I didn't know Bill at all well, and certainly not enough to write about his life, but from just one meeting with him I was looking forward to a developing friendship. I will miss him, not so much for what I remember, but for what I was looking forward to.

Bill's personal web site can be found at this URL.

http://www.hometown.aol.com/ashleyquackt/myhomepage/index.html

I don't know how long this will remain available. There are a few pages about his music, and there are some photographs he has taken. He was obviously greatly moved by the September 11 tragedy.

Send condolences to:

Barbara Cooper
709 Dixon Street
Allentown, PA 18103

His funeral will be, 10:00AM Thursday April 3rd, at the K V Knopp Funeral Home at 46 E. Susquehanna Street in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

Interesting site. You have any idea if he might have some hidden url somewhere for some music files? His site made me curious about his music.

I'm sorry to hear about Ashley.
We had just started up a correspondence, and he was going to send me some of his music.
He did mention that he had sent a CD to Bill Fox.
Bill, maybe you can dig that up?

Any news about some Cooper music files somewhere? I am still interested in finding out more about his music.

I just fired off an email to Bill. Maybe he didn't see the activity on this topic. Ashley sent him a CD for him to play on his local FM radio program, Emusic.

Bill recalls getting the CD, but he's misplaced it. He said he'd let me know if and when it turns up. From the sounds of it, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting. I contacted Don Slepian and he's going to try to find some of Ashley's stuff and make mp3s for posting. I volunteered electro-music.com as a hosting server if he needs it.

I'll post here if Bill or Don contacts me again about this.

Cool. On the other hand.. does it create some sort of copyright /piracy problem? It would have been cool having some site somewhere where artists could exchange their own stuff with other artists.. and at the same time keep the material out of "free" distribution on the net.

Do you think there is a need for this? We could do it with the electro-music.com forums. How? You might ask.

You can attach files to postings, as you already know.

I can set up special private forums where only members of usergroups can download the attachments, or even read/post messages. Let's say, for example that EGW, MOSC, and ELECTRO80 wanted to share some material. We'd just set up a private forum and post anything we want. Nobody else would be able to access this material.

The benifits of the forums (archives, multi-threading, etc) would still exist, but just for the three members of that usergroup.
