After a hiatus on the NM rack, due to a relocation, I purchased a simple USB based Yamaha Midi interface to try out on my laptop, which I would like to have as my NM editor.

Some things are working...

- When I send an all notes on command or an all notes off command from the interface, the NM MIDI light flashes, indicating that it is receiving the signal.

- When I attempt to setup MIDI in Nord Modular Editor, the In column allows me to select the appropriate port.

However ...

The out column does not provide the requisite device, and the legend
beneath the selection box says still looking... no matter how long I wait.

This is a total surprise to me as I was able to ping the NM with a command so to speak. I'm going to do the usual stuff (reinstall drivers etc), but I'm hoping some of you experts might be able to help me out.

Thanks,

Jerry

Windows XP? it sounds a little like something else... if 2000 or XP, run the editor in Win 98 compatibility mode by right-clicking the icon, then Properties/Compatibility.

No, it's Windows 98 SE. My laptop is ancient and I though I could get use out of it, by locating it next to the Nord, so that I could have an ergnomic "programming station."

The Midi interface is a Yamaha UX16

I reloaded the drivers. No luck. I'll try my XP computer next.

Thanks for chipping in. I'd be grateful for any ideas.

i`m afraid when on different midiware and OS and Hardware lots of people have this prob, it is perhaps a bug??
the functionality is there, all works, but every time i see the status....grmpf

sorry no really help, i know
i think in the meantime there is nothing to fix with this prob... Mad

Welcome max at electro-music.com

It is possible to run the midisport 2x2 under XP together with the NM Classic.

It's a while ago already, but I did have to download recent drivers from the Midiman web site and I had to set compatibility mode to win 98 (since servicepack 2, before that I didn't need the compatibility mode).

Well you guys have already helped me by mentioning driver updates. Found a new driver for my Yamaha interface. Got my fingers crossed.
Cheers,

Jerry

I'm back. Very Happy

I tried it on my other (Windows XP) computer and it works fine. Got the headphones on and a broad smile on my face. I had forgotten what great capabilities Clavia had put into this synth. Yoicks. Tally ho!

As for the laptop ... one day when I have the time ...
