A fab sound indeed :)- A bit like the tardis taking off? however you don't necessarily need a pick up. If you hold the slinky in your left/ right hand, hooked over your index finger- while poking it in your ear- you too can hear the magic slinky-spring sound!

But thats exactly what I DID say.!. I just went on to babble about my wierdy sonic boxes thus obscurring the intial thrust of my post.!.

&, oh yeah - on the subject of the Rebote Delay --> thats using the PT2399 chip (one of the cheapest digi delay chips I think?) which I've used for VCDelay for my modular whatnots.. Aiming to write up details of that somepoint soon.. I quite like it for delay (especially clocking it waaaaay down - you can get a noisy 4+seconds delay out of it if you push it!), but don't reckon it's too hot for reverbs. . . . . But, then again, I'm not too keen on synthesised reverbs other than for wierdy effects (and then I would probably go for springs)

Bugbrand,

If your into the PT239X devices, check out Ryan Williams' page:

http://www.sdiy.org/destrukto/vc-echo.html#pt2396

I got heavy into the PT2399 back in '02 - I had a crazy circuit with two PT2399's cross-regenerating, with both under voltage control. It was a blast. Actually I could run them in parallel or series. In series, you can get some pretty clean long delays.

You can clean up the long delays somewhat with a compandor, depending on how long you want them.

High regen controlled by S&H is a *great* effect, BTW.

Cheers,
Scott

Cheers Scott! - yeah, haven't had a 2395 ('cos of availability and the external RAM) - shame the delay time setting on the 2395 is totally different to the 2399 'cos my circuitry is still a little bit shakey and I could do with more pointers!

I love the dirtied quality, but I do have a tube of SA571 compandors that I've never gotten round to using, so.....

That's certainly true - sometimes a companded sound isn't what one is after. Very Happy

I wonder how Ryan's experiments with the 2396 are going. One disappointing thing about the PT's is the minimum delay time they render. I've gotten a sort of neat chorused echo effect with the PT2399. I've gotten really raunchy TZF-like stuff mixing two PT2399's together. Mixing the dry completely out, one can get a nice vibrato, though always with a tad bit of latency.

Here's some comb filtery stuff I did with a PT2399 a while back:

Just put the 2399 right at the very edge of it's minimum delay and modulated it with quite a bit of regen added (inverted IIRC).

Cheers,
Scott

hey guys... great forum here!

I believe the oilcan delays used a rotating aluminum disk, with two brushes contacting it it to induce a charge and then read it back. The disk was oxidized so the minute oixde particles would act as tiny caps.. The oil was used to help keep the charge on the plate, until it spun aroud to the pickup head..
iirc : )

I had one years ago, never got it working 100, I think I tossed it : ( oh well ....

cheers
~Steve

Here's a good old topic about DIY plate reverbs.
