blue - csound front end |
|
|
I've been exploring blue - Steven Yi's front end to Csound and it is a fantastic way to control Csound with scripts. Will be writing about it at http://beepsnort.org - first article is up already.

Basically it lets you use stochastic event generators like Cmask in tiny object-oriented ways, allowing for a better conceptualization of the textural needs at the moment. It lets you display and re-arrange these sound objects or script objects arbitrarily. It is definitely going to get me back into using Csound!

Sounds very interesting. I'm looking forward to the final article. |

Do you know if the csound/blue combo will run OK in OS X? _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

Yes, it runs well under OSX. The programmer Yi, is a Linux guy, and most of the problems are about scripts in the Windows environment. Some helper programs I'm interested in using, such as Cmask do not run under OSX, though. But anything Java runs very well. _________________ music

Ahhh.. excellent news!
Csound seems interesting, but will not the audience fall over in hysterical laughter when I show up on stage to perform my stuff... just playing back a script from the disk?? I guess this is fun for studio work, but csound is not for music written for perfomance? _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

That's pretty much what Tim Cascone did when I was visiting you in Trondheim, no? It's not what I like in a live performance, but the audience didn't seem to mind. |

True, but I expect they thought he was on to something extremely high tech or whatever.
I am still not comfortable with 200% playback or script driven performances. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

Me neither. The DJ thing has never lit my burner, unless the DJ wrote the tracks. I've got an open mind and I'll change my tune when I change my tune. |
