ELGAM STRING ENSEMBLE Subject description: Help/Info required |
|
|
Has anyone even heard of this?
It appears to be an early seventies thing, rather like a LOGAN string machine..
I've had the top cover off, and all the circitry is discrete components, not an IC in sight. Wonderful. "I dream of wires.."
ELGAM appear to have been an organ manufacturer, athough they also made an electric piano.
Anyway, I've got one. It doesn't work. (But I'll probably fix that).
Mine's got a "RHODES" badge on it for some reason..
What I would like is any information, manuals, brochures, anything really, about this machine... Anyone? |

I have seen one of those back in the late 70s(79?). It didn´t have the Rhodes logo though. And not the Elgam either. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

An ELGAM owner has been in touch, after seeing the pix. Apparently, mine's almost certainly Elgam, BUT the output is like a Scandinavian Organ (oo-er, missus). In that the outputs are marked "power supply", and MAY require a special amp...
Help, Anyone? |

It's a HOHNER STRINGER, not ELGAM.
The confusion was caused by a guy who mailed me to say that he knew it was an ELGAM, cos he had one, too.. but when he saw the pix, he had to admit it was different.
Doesn't say ELGAM anywhere, but DOES say ELEX, inside.
Right, that brings me to: how the hell do I fix it? It has two "output" jacks, which are labelled "power supply". Hmm.. and the mains power socket has wires running to that vicinity. Worrying.
I can't find anything other than a pic on keyboardmuseum, and the Synth Mania one.
I'll try looking up ELEX... |

Good luck. Fixing something like that is a labor of love; but we all know love is hard work. _________________ --Howard

Aha, that makes more sense. the Rhodes/Elgam thing didn´t quite compute. I couldn´t remember the make myself, but then there were so many string thingies around at the time.
Perhaps you could scan and post the schematics in our documents section?
