Alternatives to BCR2000 |
 |
|
I need a USB interface with at least 16 'endless' Rotary Encoders.
Any alternatives to the BCR2000? _________________ Steve |

Can anyone tell me what the distance is between two knobs on a BCR2000? i.e. center to center on two knobs.
I'm considering taking one apart and integrating into a DIY interface. If anyone has ever taken one apart or has internal photos that would be great Interested to know how easy it is to pop the individual Encoders out of the chassis... _________________ Steve |

Steve, that's interesting!
If you start your operation on this guy, would you mind taking some photos ? _________________ step-sequencer

Use the Kenton Killamix Mini. Should easily solve your problems. |

Very cool Kenton product... expensive though!
I bought a 2nd hand BCR2000 and have taken it apart and have taken photos of every stage so Will definitely post them online somewhere when I get a chance. _________________ Steve |

Cool!
What can you say about the LED ring, is this an individual component or just LEDs on the board? _________________ step-sequencer

Everything is individually soldered straight onto the board.... i.e. every LED is seperate... so it's no simple job to change the form factor of the knobs! But I may attempt it.. I don't know yet... I need to read up on the finer points and hazards of Desoldering first! I don't think any of the elements are paricularly fragile though, LED's, switches and pots basically. there aren't really any IC's mounted that close by on the board. Will sort out the photos over the weekend. _________________ Steve |

For the amount of effort you will put into this thing, seems like you could go the way of Midibox.org instead.
I'm going to be making a controller myself soon that will be like the doepfer pocket dial with extra buttons and note on and offs...and not using any kind of premade pcb's etc. i eventually will have it for sale but not for a while..
hopefully namm this month will have some new midi controller thingie. |
