i thougth it could be of some interest:

i bought this special crayon for color fill ins:
http://www.micro-tools.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?LTPLanguage=EN&Screen=PROD&Product_Code=LS-KIT&Store_Code=MTE

i had an old schaeffer CNC fronpanel in my drawer and tried the LA-CO "Liquer Stik fill in color". works fine. 5 minutes for one panel. i was told that the color would dry off and cure in a day...

Looks great! Not surprised though, all your projects are impressive.

This would also enable a plain aluminum panel to have black graphics (or other dark color) assuming they have black, etc crayons available.

As always, thanks for sharing.

cheers

i should add that it realy has a great look and feel. the engraving is filled with the color (instead of smud and crud) so you get a plane surface.

Stupid question. What do you use to clean the excess off with?

Is that orange fluorescent?
I'm thinking it would look extra nice illuminated with some UV LED lights on little goosenecks if it was.

*bump*

For stateside folks, these are available from Industrial Supplies (http://gsgindustrial.com/searchresult.aspx?CategoryID=51) for about US$1.30, and from Brownell's (http://www.brownells.com/aspx/ns/store/productdetail.aspx?p=7778
for US$2.95.

I know nothing about Industrial Supply, and there's no mention of a minimum order. I have purchased many items from Brownell's, the customer service is excellent, the products are excellent, but they are pricey. You do get a discount if you have a friendly FFL.

the panel?

no, not necessary. the fill in paint will dry and then be very resistant.

Thanks for the state side site. seems reasonably priced. Very Happy

Fonik, what kind of coverage can you get with a single stick? This would be good knowledge for planning a quantity I would need for a given panel size.

Thanks again !

OK, thanks. It really goes a long way then. I have some VCF panels I will be getting done so I will get the panels engraved only instead of getting the colors filled in by Scheaffer to save some cash. I will get some of these sticks and give it a whirl.

Thanks ...

How do you think this would fare on a synthesizers.com blank that already has flat black paint on it?

I'm about ordering some Schaeffer-frontpanels for my FracRak. The panels will be black but I can't decide upon the lettering: White or silver?

While silver might sounds strange it'll probably blend nicely with Wiard/MOTM-style knobs and the jacks. What do yo think?

you might want to take a look at my black modules or the waterproof soundlab. these frontpanels are black anodized with no color fill - silver, so to say. i like it...

Thanks Fonik, yes, that looks fine. One of my panels is without any paint which I think a bit dull, however, I might have chosen a too narrow graver (0,2mm) and too small letters (0,2mm).

This time I'll go for DIN1451 and a 0,4mm or a 0,6mm graver and 2,5mm letters.

Which width had the graver used for your panel?

0.2mm, even for the new panels with black fill-in color, which i fill with the color mentioned in this thread.

2mm!

@Fonik, I'll give it another try without paint since I can add the Lacquer Stik paint later. Thanks.
