Using AirDisplay on the iPad and a mac you can run the editor on your iPad!

Unfortunately I can't find away to drag the menu block onto the iPad display and also using fingers to change knob values for some reason doesn't work.

Using a mouse you can work but then you might as well use the mac I suppose.

Works well with plugins though as long as you have dainty fingers!

Cheers

Alright. Let me rephrase that. It's a simple editor with a GUI. It's still not that impressive.

What is more impressive is what Chris Wolfe has done with Jasuto, an app that also creates sound. The G2 is a dead product. A terrible shame, but it's true. It seems ridiculous and preposterous to use a £500 tablet product just to get the editor to work.

Hear hear! Everyone trying to get the G2 editor to work on the iPad - stop it right now! It's ridiculous and preposterous! Wink

No Stefan, it IS ridiculous- unless you have time to burn of course. But the G2 is a dead products. It would be far better to channel efforts into an iPad project that was yet to be built wouldn't it? You know Clavia's past record. Once something is dead it is dead Sad

Personally, I think that it may probably be a cool thing to get together with the developers of NOMAD and produce an editor for the NM1, on the iPad? Maybe the G2 as well, at a later date?

I don't understand why you say the G2 is a dead product. My G2 still works just like the first day. The editor works perfectly in my Windows 7 64 bit. I see no difference with 6 years ago, only that it works better now.

Perhaps "Out of production" would be a better term, but far from dead. It hasn't been surpassed yet, there is no equal to it. Arturia's Origin is like a bad joke in comparison.

Moreover, I'm using my main computer to edit my G2, which cost much more than £500, and I feel no shame for it. I can also run great games on it. What's the problem? Why not an iPad?

I foresee a long life for my G2, unless other similar product is released (ie, G3). As long as it is the only one of its kind, and has usable drivers, it will be alive. Well, this forum also helps A LOT. Very Happy

You know what's a dead product? my Yamaha 01x and i88x, two absolutely great machines which costed much more than the G2, but don't have drivers for the latest operating systems (infamous mLan), so they don't work.

Yeah well, in this case it depends on how you define "dead". I still use my G2. I haven't gotten into using any iTouch app beyond toying for a few minutes yet. If the editor could be made running on a new platform it would ensure that the G2 could be usable - possibly even enhanced - for a while longer.

Channeling efforts into new apps... I feel that the real success happens once in maybe thirty or fourty attempts. I'll certainly get an iPad eventually and try stuff out, but I'm not holding my breath for any revolutionary music thing happening on it soon. I'd try coding something myself but I seem to have lost the energy for that kind of stuff nowadays. Sad

I realise many here are doing all kinds of awesome stuff with the iPhone, but personally everything I've tried has just left me frustrated in the end.

The main thing is that a gadget like an iPad is a general purpose machine with lots of different uses, even within a niche such as music making. You can't say that Jasuto brings more value than a G2 editor for everyone. It may be that way for you, but not for me (I didn't get into Jasuto at all).

Exactly. I also still use my NM1, which really is 'dead'! Laughing

Hmmm.... Apart from making Tom very happy, that's a pretty inaccurate and useless statement. I don't think the Origins task is to equal, surpass or compete with the G2. It's a completely different instrument. While I personally don't have any interest in the G2, the Origin fits the bill nicely. Of course, it could be said to absolutely kill the Nord Modulars in a number of respects - that is, if synthesizers were a contest, which they aren't, so that would be another useless statement Razz

iPad/touchscreen is a bad interface to run the editor. you'd waste a lot of time zooming in and out and scrolling around.

BUT... iPad would be a GREAT interface to control the G2 live via midi CC/program changes/etc...

i am STILL waiting for a good MIDI controller app for the iPad (like TouchOSC, but sends MIDI instead of OSC messages) but so far there is nothing. there is even a direct MIDI interface available for the iPad (Line 6 Midi Mobilizer) but still no full featured apps that take advantage of it. everything is geared to Ableton Live/TouchOSC/Laptop/etc etc etc... where is the MIDI support?!

If you are using a Mac then Osculator will help you convert OSC to midi, its a great little App:

To Clavia:
I've read that Line6 Midi Mobilizer is going open SDK...
http://www.musicradar.com/news/tech/iphone-and-ipad-to-get-more-midi-capable-apps-270590?cpn=RSS&source=MRNEWSTECH

"As an open invitation to developers, we are now providing the SDK at no charge, and are not charging any license fee or royalty."

Please Mr Clavia just be human and make the G2 (and G1) Editor open source. It is the only way to justify the END OF FUTURE UPDATES for the NM G2 Editor (leaving us with a BUGGY v1.62.... what a SHAME for a company like you).

Huh? Is that true?

I didn´t even know there were any G2 drivers for Windows 7.

I have been a bit worried about of what I should do when my old XP laptop choose to become defunct. I´ve heard/read about Vista G2 drivers not being reliable... and by Vista already becoming obsolete this kinda fueled my worries even more.

@BobTheDog, cool with the iPad. Too bad it doesn´t work all out, it would be awesome to have that tiny touchscreen to see/modify patches in a G2 engine.

Absolutely, I use it every day (right now for example). Just for the record, the Nord Sound Manager (for the NL3) also works perfectly.

howdy folks

I own a 23" Acer touch screen which is ok but the best this I've found for touch screen programming the G2 (and G1) software is by using an old Itronix Gobook that has a military spec resistive touch screen and is very responsive however you can only ever use one finger at a time.

Posted Image, might have been reduced in size. Click Image to view fullscreen.

the only problem with the G2 software is the low resolution misses of some of the morph knobs but there are workarounds

you can pick up PIII Gobooks (normally ex police) of ebay for very little, all you need then is a USB2 PCMCIA card and your away!

makes the sequencers much more fun Smile
