z=c*z(1-z)

Not floating point number ( only approximately but useful for generative music )

Quite a set, interesting as well, had totally missed it ... next time please don't post such when I'm on a holiday Very Happy

And maybe interesting, here is the "simple" Z <- Z^2 + C case worked out for Z and C being complex numbers (Z as a + bi and C as c + di).

Made the left channel osc listen to the real part (a) and the right channel osc to the imaginary part (b) of Z - also nice patterns I think. the patch is demo "friendly".

Explanation :

Z <- Z^2 + C Which can be rewritten as :

a + bi <- (a + bi)^2 + (c + di) or :

a + bi <- a^2 - b^2 + 2abi + c + di or with real and imaginary parts sorted :

a + bi <- (a^2 - b^2 + c) + (2ab + d)i or split into two equations :

a <- a^2 - b^2 + c
b <- 2ab + d

The patch always uses Z = 0 + 0i as the start value for the iteration (on patch load), C is a user variable with coarse and fine control.

You might think of this a some kind of sequencer for generating melodies or note sequences. Instead of a random note generator or a repeating note sequencer, these patches generate sequences that sound musical and interesting. If you are interested in pop music or jazz, these might not be all that useful, but if you are developing algorithmic based music, these are just great to have in your bag of tricks.
