I finally finished my Serge-style rack panel about a week ago and got around to taking pictures. Also featured is the DIY portable rack case (3/4" pine and plywood + hardware/carpet from ReliableHardware.com.) It has a hinged latch-on lid too (with enough room to keep things patched in!)

Below this panel is my new Midibox CV, which I am really enjoying, and my Midibox SEQ3. This whole rig together is currently my "bassline machine" for composing and live shows -- but hopefully it will grow beyond that, to allow a setup for more symbiotic lead lines/basslines/percussion.

Yes, those are the Small Bear knob clones -- they feel great to me, not cheapo at all. I've never used original ones so I wouldn't be able to tell a difference. But I really love these.

Very sweet- how does it sound? Are you enjoying the banana experience?

And why not use an AOUT with the Seq? I'm after the 8 simultaneous Gate outs for synth percussion which actually lines up (piss off, MIDI!)

Great work...really attractive artwork and paneling!

lars,
your progress is amazing to me, these really look great--and even top your previous work (which I was also amazed at). Your pace of work is an inspiration.

Got any photos of the insides??

I am constantly adjusting the way I cram stuff inside, and would be interested in seeing your methods. I am already building in a roughly half serge panel on its side format, and would love to do even wider panels, but it gets real cramped on the backside, and I have no desire ot make life that much harder for the visual appeal factor.

Thanks for all the nice words! I appreciate the comments.

I am fairly happy with how these panels came out -- the yellow silkscreen is a little darker than I had hoped -- I was trying out a new ink which wasn't as opaque on black. The textured matte finish (Rustoleum) on the panels is something new I'm trying, after seeing the beautiful MOTM panels I received from Bridechamber (top row.) It's definitely adding a level of professional allure to my new panels.

There is room for another 4U panel (like the current one) below the Midibox CV. I am not sure what will go here, but maybe a full sequencer/timing/clock panel with various CGS modules.

I'm filling up that top row, first -- starting with new panels for my Cynare, Clangora, MFOS Phase Shifter, and a couple filters (ARP 4075 and Steiner SynthaCon.)

I actually moved my AOUT board out of my SEQ to build the Midibox CV. The Midibox CV seems to behave way more accurately with a variety of midi sources, and the calibration/scaling options are far beyond what the SEQ can do with an AOUT board. I guess I'll see if I run into any issues...

Part of it was definitely only wanting a single cable going from the SEQ to the synth, and planning ahead for a time when a buddy might want to borrow the synth by itself for a studio date or something.

You can get the 8 gate outputs off the core board though -- no need for an AOUT for that. I'll be building a separate sequencer for drums at some point, but now my act has a drummer so it's not a huge concern. I'll be sequencing more "modular percussion" stuff here though -- variable gatelength patterns on the Cynare are one of my favorite things right now! Smile

This is used as a bassline rig right now -- any ideas on essential modules I'm missing, for that kind of application?

I'll pull it out and take some pictures of the backside. It's VERY messy. Half of these modules were taken off old panels, so I reused the mounting brackets where ever possible. It should be pretty solid though... next panel, I'll be able to plan ahead a little more.

Low Pass Gates are quite nice for Bass sounds and add a kind of natural timbre to your sound. They're pretty cool all round.

Also, the CGS burst generator could be useful for bass and percussion stuff, letting you fire off trills and flams.

Both of those circuits are definitely in my queue -- I already have a Burst Generator stuffed and ready to go. I hadn't thought about using it for basslines though. Thanks. Smile

I buy them from a local shop. I was doing this at home, but have moved it over to a friend of mine's screenprinting workshop. Too messy for the house, and I pay him to do some of the work burning screens. We are using 200 mesh. The ink is some sort of solvent-based ink that air dries, but I have had better luck getting thicker/brighter lines with Plastisol.

Wow, thanks again guys. Smile It really makes all the difference to have such an encouraging community.

Zonk, I need to drive some stuff down and visit you some weekend soon. Are you doing the synth party again this year?

Yeah, the synth party will be in early October--the night after the Yip-Yip show in Austin.
