Baby baby ive been busy,

Here is 3 synthesizers I Finally got round to putting together in the last 3 months. I put them in my fine art degree show so I got to get some good snaps of them.

left to right

Dual MFOS Soundlab and Keyboard
with S+H and Drum trigger
the mixers can take all 4 of the available oscillators

ASM-2 semi-modular
without patching the left side is 2 saws to state variable then vca
right 2 squares to LP moog then VCA

CLONE MODULAR
Built to act like a traditional subtractive modular. stupidly dense ( it needs to be due to lack of bedroom space ) trying to fit a sort of bank of well know filters thats , polivoks, steiner, arp, moog, korg ms20, korg resonator, ems, wasp etc - 6 YU vco's and some unusual modules like fritz chaos , tube vca, S+H/T+H, attenuverter, Noise cornicopia . with a little vca bank, it should be possible to get about 5 voices going at once. the mixers are not yet on it ( they go in the 1 u strips ) . 2xfritz AR 2xMFOS AR 1xYUADSR 1xMFOS ADSR - the mfos AR has repeat so it should double up as a sort of trapezoid LFO. It should be possible when its complete to do some FM experiments too

at the moment they only just work, but in a few months they should be all operating and then eventually in years! I should have them finished!

I screen printed and designed the panels and cases

COOL! love the idea of all those filters + 6 VCO's. That should make a big noise!
Nice job - I like the left one with the keyboard. MOTM size knobs with small jacks - works for me.

Cheers
Phil

wow

may i ask how are you

1. making your panels? are they wood?
2. printing your panels? are they painted? stickers? they look really nice.

3. did your build your own rack? if so, what kind of wood did you use?

great work

they look amazing!! I love the line of symmetry down the middle of the dual sound lab, although doesn't it get confusing? Also, the wooden panels look great and seem an often underconsidered alternative to aluminium etc....

1. first is ply from the bottom of a draw, the other 2 are hardboard its a kind of thin high density fibreboard shiney on one side and like wool on the other - compared to steel its not that great, very messy but cheap and easy to sand down although not to great to drill - another option to steel is acrylic sheet but that has its own problems too (it can be pretty static).

2. screen printed, I have acess to a proper screen print shop ( its all do it yourself though ) the clone modular is navy blue on silver, asm hardboard with white square then brown layer then laquer, SL is black on plain wood then varnished. There are places were for a small fee you can use their facilities - this is what I hope to do now I have graduated

3. yup 18mm birch ply - bought it in a 8x4' sheet then got it circulared down to 15mm planks - from most places you can get it pre-sawn. then just chop sawed it and corner clamped them together - for the keyboard I used a bandsaw and table sander. the clone modular is made from 8mm oak and I chizeled finger joints
