Confused Dang.
You are not measuring a short - or nearly so.... which is what I was expecting.

When you have the batteries hooked up - what are you measuring for voltage + and -?
Then put a MA meter in series with the + supply - what are you measuring for current? Do the same for the - supply.

Back to troubleshooting 101.
Get back in there with a magnifying glass and look for solder bridges. Double check your 'flying wires' to the jacks.
Re-check the IC orientation (they don't all face the same way)

Keep posting what you are finding... and maybe post a nice close shot of the board - top and bottom.

Keep at it.

Thanks a LOT!
I am learning a lot about trouble-shooting with your help......

But....I think theres a law; something like: the more time (T) one spends looking for a problem (P) is exponentially relevent to the simpleness (S) of the problem, and thereby the solution.

I am still not sure exactly what the problem was, but for some reason I decided to un-solder the battery harness, and 're-build' it using brand new battery clips.

I re-built it and soldered it on in the EXACT same way it was before.....and it now WORKS!

weird.
I havnt a clue of the exact hows and whys of that battery harness being....funky....but appearently it was. Maybe something was shorted up inside the clip part?

Heres the video:

THANKS SO MUCH AGAIN
for all of your patient help!

I really appreciate it.....even if I find my mistakes to be so very....simple.

But that means I'm learning!

Thanks
bc

Subject description: Problem #2: The process of weeding out
Reply with quote  Mark this post and the followings unread

OK, now that I've got the mini-controller basically working, how do I make it work?

(I'm in the process of making a video that might help to explain things better)

Part of the master plan is to make a bass act as a keyboard/controller.

On the mini-controller, there are spots on the PCB for hooking up an external keyboard. So thats where I thought I'd hook in my bass "Keyboard" (Resistor chain running under the fretboard connecting frets, and the string acting as the bus)

I am using a standard XLR sockets and cable because it has three leads: Bus, Key top and key bottom.
I connected those into the "KBTP" and "KBUS" and what I am assuming is "key board bottom" on the PCB.

NOW the weirdness begins:
Without the bass/keyboard plugged in, this opperate normally as far as the key-pads and wand on the mini-controller go. You can hear the different notes from one pad to the next.

BUT
When I plug in my bass/keyboard, then it will trigger, but there are no "Notes" just the same note no matter what pad I hit with the wand. The bass behaves this way too.

I hope I am making some kind of sense here.
Unplugged=Different notes
Plugged in= No different notes.

Should I somehow disconnect the built-in keyboard on the mini-controller if I am going to use an external keyboard?

I'll try to get this video up that might explain the issues better.

Looks like the KBD bottom just connects to ground...

OK, I'll give that a try, and see what it does.

Hey Crometuna,
Try lifting one of the legs of a 100 ohm resistor in the resistor chain of the mini-controller, and then try your bass controller.

Oh no!
Last time I tried that, she slapped the crap out of me and threatened to call the cops!

Or...uh....were you talking about basically breaking the resistor chain so the juice flows more to the bass resistor chain?

Cheers

Did you ever get this working Chrometuna?

Well, sort of. I havn't really messed with it much since my last post. (Got distracted by other things....and ordering more PCBs from Ray)

But, by "Lifting a leg" you are NOT refering to peeing on it, like a dog 'lifts a leg' to pee on a fire hydrant?

Are you saying that I should basically break the resistor chain by clipping, or un-soldering one of the resistors in the chain? And then seeing how THAT might affect the working of my external "key board"?

I'll give that a try, maybe this afternoon.
And if thats what it takes, I might install a switch between the resistor chain and the 'external keyboard' so that I can easily switch between using the keypads and my bass-controller.

Hey Chrometuna,

So did breaking the on-board resistor chain solve the problem? Does the 'external' keyboard now work?

Dang! I was hoping that the Mini-Controller would work with both the on-board keys and an external keyboard plugged in.
