Personally, I wouldn't buy a piano like that. Have you seen the latest CP pianos of Yamaha? Those are beautiful.

If you mean the designers had to stick to their scheme, I'm with you. It's like you dated the beautiful red haired sexy lady, but you'll end up with the ugly sister...
I wonder if the Panel was less small, but filled the red hood almost completely and more to the left to fit some music paper or your drinks on top...
It's less dull...

Wout

(A NordModular Classic Key at the left and a G2 Key at the right, but the controls still in reach... Wink

Who is not just a lot uglier, but more into classical values as such, and not really keen of the idea of "let's plug this thing here and see what happens my love"... Laughing

You definitely have to put something on the top to make her look good.
I bet a G2X would look ravishing on the top of it, covering the whole piano eventually. Smile

Maybe there is a G3 inside the piano?

I wonder how the lack of controls on the front panel will affect the price? red is pricey, not just for keyboards but also for automobiles. both are made to perform Wink

No price is available for the Nord Piano at the moment, so be sure to check www.soundtech.co.uk/nord in the coming month.

Yes, but you have to unlock it by purchasing a separate licence key and plugging an iLok-dongle into the USB-port. The big rectangular areas on the top panel will then change their red color at the next start-up, and you will notice that they have been disguised touch-screens all along.

The size of the unit is due to the copious amount of hardware inside, which combines a quad XilinX FPGA digital engine with Anadigm FPAA programmable analog arrays, interfaced via Apogee DAC and ADC stages clocking at up to 384kHz. Next to offering full compatibility with NM and G2 patches, Clavia has also licenced the complete module list and algorithms of the Symbolic Sound Kyma system as well as of the Eventide H8000 processors. The FPAA analog arrays offer faithfully modeled analog replicas of Moog, Oberheim, CS80, MS20 and SSM filters, delivering up to 128 filters simultaneously in standard configuration. (There are 2 internal slots for optional FPAA expansion boards.) All of this is topped of with running your DAW of choice on the second screen, using sends and returns to interface it with the G3 modular system. Future upgrades will include licences of analog Neve and SSL EQs and dynamics circuits for the FPAA engine, which will enable true analog mixing and summing.

Of course, included in the licence key cardboard box are stickers saying "Nord Modular G3" which you can stick over the "Nord Piano" logos.

Stay tuned. More to come.

Quite right. Nord learned long ago that if you can put "Organ" or "Piano" on the box, people will buy it no matter what it is.

Clearly that's the route to commercial success for the g3 then...just put out an updated modular with all the good stuff Tim mentions 9as a starting point) and then call it a 'B3'.

Actually... that's what Kurzweil has been doing. The PC3X is marketed as a workstation intended to compete against the Fantoms, Motifs, and Korg's M3/50, and is probably technically better than those. Inside it's actually a K2600 (VAST engine) with the VA1 engine (the VA1 was Kurzweil's virtual analog synth that never saw the light).

I didn't know that...I thought the new line were all stage pianos and the synth development had kind of frozen with the k2600. Looks pretty interesting...not that I have the money or space for it, but I do go through bouts of nostalgia for my K2000, their gear has a good sound.

What makes you think Clavia hasn't idea's about these kind of instruments? Because they released the Nord Piano? I still see it as a 'filling the hole instrument'. Okay, it also has some effect on the price of other machines, mainly the Stage... If you need one (which most here probably don't Smile) just ask for some more discount: the retailer will follow you, at least in Europe they do.
Anyway, I knew the Nord Piano was in the pipeline more then a year ago, so do you really think the resonance of the strings took over a year to develop? There are surely more projects and why not the machine as described above?

Save your money or rob elderly women and buy as many of that new machines as you can afford and surely the NordXTL5+ will be released Wink

i've touched it in the music store. Amazing tube driven piano's. It feld a bit too expensive to make it too dirty with my fingers. But anyways i rather have a new modular platform wich can do all that and much more.

MODULAR G3 still requested

I don't mind the Nord Piano (although it does look a bit ugly). I've wanted a Nord Electro since it first came out, and I'm really attracted to the Electro 3, but I'm not a piano player and I don't think I'll get the best out of it, but if money and space were not an issue....

Near the top of Nord's web page today, they say:

During the last ten years we have given you the Nord Lead 3, Nord Stage, Nord Modular G2, Nord Electro and the Nord Combo Organs.

Notice what's missing? Care to speculate on why?

I can speculate some...

Hans Nordelius is known to be a little insecure when it comes to the English language.
Also Tomas Johansson doesn't do much proof reading before a text is published on their site...
Furthermore it is possible the NordLead2X can't live with a successor and the Nord Wave fails where the NordLead3 has failed before…
And how about the Nord Electro3 is a better option to buy than the Wave?

But tell me, why would Hans Nordelius announce a discontinuation of the Nord Wave to be read between the lines of a Happy New Year card? The only thing which is sure is the discontinuation of the year 2009 Very Happy

An optimistic view might be to note that if the Wave, which so far as we know is still a current product, is considered unworthy of mention, and the G2, which was discontinued last year, is still considered worthy, then perhaps the hypothetical Wave update using the G2 codebase is still a possibility...
