Hello, I am looking for a how-to on a very specific mod on a Casio sk-5, namely to turn off the tremolo on the flute sound. That's it! any links or help would be very appreciated.

I found a link to the service manual at http://www.casiosk1.com/ , might be useful.

Hrmpff... several attempts to download failed. If anyone succeeds, please post it as an attachment here.

Hmm .. the download works OK, but acrobat reader says the file is damaged beyond repair ...

edit: and when i try to interpret it with ghostscript i get errors too .. and when i make ghostscript try to rewrite it I end up with an empty PDF.

My upload limit has been reached so no attachment (15.8M).

Edit: My upload limit has been raised, now the Casio SK-5 Service Manual is attached for "dead link prevention" .

No mention of tremolo (vibrato?) in the service manual.

I've done some SK-1's, no SK-5's.

SK-5 CPU is MSM6283-05GS. SK-1 CPU is MSM6283-01GS. Some similarities in functions.

The SK-1 has a separate vibrato on/off function.
SK-5 has some unused functions at the key matrix. You might want to try those. YMMV.

Do mind that tremolo is a variation in volume, while vibrato is a variation of frequency.
An interesting manual.
The percussion generator has its own clock frequency, apart from the CPU.

Exactly, and the terms are frequently used in the wrong place. As the SK-1 has vibrato, I wonder, does the SK-5 use vibrato as well or actual tremolo?
In the latter case this might be implemented by the separate envelope signal sent from the CPU and could be overruled by adding a stationary voltage or smoothing capacitor there . I'm just guessing though.

Yes, I saw that. Cool. You could bend the percussion sounds independently from the synth/sampler sounds I suppose.

To show you the location of the ROM chips:
http://www.makezine.com/extras/33.html
The adress lines (see manual) are usually good and safe points.
