1st Annual Electro-Music Field Recording Composition Project |
|
|
Welcome to the
electro-music
Field Recording Composition Project
Inspired by similar projects on the net, the electro-music Field Recording Project challenges users to create original compositions from the existing field rec archive. Participants will be limited to field recordings as the only sound sources, but can chop, mutilate, and process with effects to the heart's desire.
Original compositions should be anywhere from 4 to 10 mins in length. Please use only the field recordings in the archive to construct your pieces. If you have a recording that you would like to use, please just upload it to the archive so it is accessible to everyone.
This is NOT a competition or a contest. This is simply a creative project to celebrate our wonderful archive of sounds from around the world.
Deadline for submission is November 20, 2010. If there is a good response for this project, then we will publish the project with creative commons on a friendly netlabel.
Please post any questions about the project here in the thread.
Good luck and pleasant composing!

Cappy thanks for your interest.
The deadline was fairly arbitrary reallly... others have expressed that concern too. We can move the deadline back some. I would hate to discourage any participation because of that. Maybe closer to the end of the year would be a better deadline. Deadlines seems to help motivate me to get things done, otherwise I might perfect forever. Just let me know what you think. _________________ ElectroCasa |

The deadline is fine, I was talking out loud regarding my lack of playtime.
Don't change anything on my account, please. _________________ Free Tibet. Release the Panchen Lama from prison. Let the Dalai Lama return to his home. |

Oh Ok!
In that case... I hope you can find some time. Would be cool... Its interesting to me to see what each person comes up with, the sounds they will select, arrangement and style of a piece of music, when everyone has the same sounds to work with. _________________ ElectroCasa |

Yes, it levels the playing field somewhat.
This reminds me of a project (not a competition though) from a mailing list many years ago. A concept was decided upon, and a phrase was chosen to be recorded by everyone interested. The first person would record themselves reading the phrase, then send the tape to the next person on a list of interested contributors.
When all the recordings were finished, someone would take them and master them into the final product. Unfortunately interest in the project dropped off and it never was completed. _________________ Free Tibet. Release the Panchen Lama from prison. Let the Dalai Lama return to his home. |

That's Awsome! I would love to participate in this. It's a great idea and sounds like fun.
So If I have a field recording I'd like to use I can just post it up on the forum?
It seems like there's plenty there already if I take the time to cull through them.
Thanks! |

Hi JRock
Yes if you want to participate in the project, but have a specific sample you want to use in your composition, then post the sample in the field recordings section for everyone as well. To do so, Just start a new topic with the subject as the title for your field recording, add as an attachment in your post. Site only supports mp3, but I post mine in 256k which is pretty decent.
*Correction: Site takes most formats and now flac as well*
Would be great to have you participate in the project! _________________ ElectroCasa Last edited by shanemorris on Thu Oct 07, 2010 4:46 am; edited 1 time in total |

Only 4-10 mins? Shane, why do you torture us with such short times?
Where do we put our tracks when they are done? _________________ Jack Hertz.com | Aural Films |

well everyone knows I like longform
however....
I did/do not have a way of knowing how many people will eventually end up contributing. So to keep it on the safe side... 10 min limit.
Hang on to your track ... we will make this an official release on a netlabel. Will post more about that in the near future _________________ ElectroCasa |

Hi all just wanted to chime in that I am working on contributing a song to this project. I have experienced a lot of personal set backs that have slowed things up recently but I have begun a piece of music and am joining the fray! This should be fun for everyone. And I like the idea of only using what's available in the library.

I'm in. posted a couple of recordings for use by others, sorry so late to the game...
10 minutes can be difficult to keep within for a project like this, but I'll abide by the rules, if only barely |

Marimba drum party in a bowling alley (with extra Popcorn) Subject description: Antimon and some fieldrecordings |
|
|
Antimon was playing nice marimba sounds on his port and I was having fun
adding some of the fieldrecordings by Shane Morris, Dan Minoza and Muied Lumens.
This is not an entry for the EM Field Recording Composition, but because of the use
of the recorded sounds I think this is the best place to post it.
Needs More Popcorn!
