Sorry I missed the show tonight, Les. Showtime always falls during the period when I make dinner for the kids. Looking forward to listening when you get a chance to upload. |

Just finished listening to this last show. Most enjoyable. Thank you. It's widened my understanding and given me some new techniques to experiment with.
Anyway, you asked for comments so here goes...
I 'm a beginner, but there was nothing in the show I couldn't understand. Don't be afraid to crank up the complexity a little. We can always pester you in the forum or the chatroom, and the more discussion generated the better surely?
I'm not sure about splitting up the show into sections. You should do whatever you enjoy best. I always appreciate any kind of instruction in electronics, but it was also enjoyable when you improvised your circuit, swapping wires and so forth. Any sort of unexpected results and discoveries are great, and are in the spirit of live transmission and lunettas in general.
I have a couple of questions. Hope you don't mind me firing them at you. If you like you could answer them on the next show, or here on the forum. Or not at all.
1. How is it that the logic 'cloud' seems to add harmonic content to the signal? Is it doing anything other than rearranging and mixing square waves of various frequencies?
2. AC-coupling - this is a new concept for me. You used it a few times in this circuit. Am I right in that the reason you used it was to act as a sort of high-pass filter to isolate the higher frequencies from your voice? Assuming I haven't already got this wrong already, why is this? Would the higher frequencies of your voice more efficiently modulate the frequency of the oscillator, and if so, why?
3. What other sources of modulation input might we explore? There's voice and guitar obviously. What about intentionally picking up radio interference? (this is more a thinking aloud than a question...)
Anyway looking forward to the next one...

Richard, thanks for the feedback - sounds like a plan! I'll answer your questions on the show.

Great sounds this week Les. Really enjoyed your jamming. What was the synthesized drum sound you used? Sounded very Drexciya-ish with the strange rhythms from the boolean sequencer.
Thanks for answering my questions. Most helpful. I'll be doing some reading about A/C coupling / D/C blocking I think. |

Sonic, the drum sounds are ChucK models made by kijjaz. He used to make all kinds of models and I would make applications from them. I have not seen kijjaz in a while though, years really.

OK so that last message was the end of December. 2012, and now it's the end of December 2016. I've been away for four years this time. I popped in once in a while but never really returned. Well I'm back. Back with full intent of staying put here, not letting petty differences pull me away. Here's why.
I'm faced with my own mortality. I have gained weight, a lot of weight. I now tip the scales somewhat above 500 lbs. Yeah I know. So it's lose it or lose it for me. I'm working on controllers that translate body motion into control signals. for the purpose of creating music with body language.
Succinctly put: The Les Hall Show is back!
This new 2017 edition will begin with a rambling series of recordings aimed at introducing exercise using Pure data (Pd). At Howard's recommendation I'm getting into Pd. The mosc is wise, and I obey!
So we begin with some disorganized audio soon to get better. Here goes...
