WSG ~ Help Newbie with some LED & Mod questions - |
 |
|
Im hoping one of you would be patient enough to explain as simply as possible
(like you are explaining it to a child:) ) how to:
-add a led to the on/off switch
-How to add Leds to show the Rate of the lfo's
-which 2 knobs are the LFO's?
-and how to add a momentary type switch in line with the on/off with so i can momentarily cut power to the unit.
Thanks again for your patience with me. I can solder but have little to no electrical theory knowledge. |

1. Connect a resistor (1k is typical for 9volts) and LED between any +V and Ground points after the power switch.
2. see this thread http://electro-music.com/forum/topic-49449.html&sid=300a869fe8bef986981185011f0f0251
3. The WSG doesn't have oscillators called LFO, but the Wacky and Zany oscillators modulate the Weird oscillator, so they could be considered LFOs.
4. You need a normally closed pushbutton (or one with both N.C. and N.O. terminals,) in series with the power switch. You could also use a toggle switch that has a "momentary" position in series with the power switch. You would make NO connection to the momentary terminal.
It's really shameful that nobody who has actually built a WSG tried to help. _________________ "It's quite OK to make music with tea spoons and rubber bands!" -- Blue Hell |

in case you plan to use this for rythmic playing/gating, let me suggest a different route.
Add a killswitch on the output, like some people do it on their guitars. That way, you could even use a 4066 chip to gate the wsg with a sequencer.
PS: i have not built a wsg , so maybe there's other ways to get the same effect.
PPS: it is possible to decide with the flick of a switch if button presses/external gate signals play or silence the sound |

Thanks for the replies Guys.
The reason I was going for a momentary kill for power is for the wacky sounds that happen when powering down. |

You get some quite interesting sounds as the circuit bleeds power - perhaps you could use a pot to starve the unit in a controllable way? |
