FS: 256 starfire monome - 550$ Subject description: half built, needs troubleshooting. |

I cannot finish this kit because I know too little about electronics and soldering.
The Starfire arduinome build was part of a few group buys, documentation can be found on the monome site and starfire made video tutorials as well.
It comes with:
4x button boards, already built,
4x arduino boards, already built,
the cables to connect the button boards with the arduino boards (these aren't done but I have everything needed)
4x 64 button pads from livid
1x aluminium faceplate from livid
1x spacer for the buttons + hardware to screw in the faceplate.
1x custom wooden case (if anyone is interested I will take pictures soon)
1x usb hub that goes in the case + all needed cables. (it has 4 usb out so the hub turns that into one. It's a powered hub and the back of the monome also gives 2 extra usb ports.
What's wrong with it:
The LED brightness isn't the same for every buttons. and 7 leds don't light up on one of the button board.
I did test every button boards with every arduinos and I came to the following conclusions:
The arduinos are perfectly working, each button pads give the exact same result with every arduinos.
The button boards are the problem, each board have a different brightness issue when using the same cable to connect them with an arduino. So it's not the cable.
I was told to change the leds, so I bought new ones of a different brand and this didn't fix my issue, so it's not the leds.
I did not change the diodes (there is 1 diode per button) it might be the source of the problem. The other source could be the connectors from the button board to the cables... but since these same ones work well on the arduino. it's probably the diodes or the board itself.
I guess pictures could help to see if it's the board itself. as far as I know, it's in good shape.
I am located in Montreal, Canada.
Buying the parts to build this cost me over 700$.
I would like to sell the whole thing for 550$

I don't mind troubleshooting more if you have ideas that would enlighten you on whether this is worth it or not. This is too bad because this controller is very unique. I needed it back then but I don't need it anymore so I never had the opportunity to use it. However, this can be a great deal for you!
Thanks. |
