Muzak Subject description: Stimulus Progression
It has come to my attention that Muzak has now been retired. I know it is popular to label Muzak as boring or bad taste, but on closer examination there is something very interesting in this phenomenon.
For the past three decades I thought Industrial Music which I had grown to love was in essence the sounds of the factory and created by groups such as Throbbing Gristle, Test Department etc. . I couldn't have been more wrong. What factory workers were listening to was far more subtle, and perhaps even more sinister.
Please take a look and a listen at this incredible moment in aural history.
ATTENTION SHOPPERS! I'll be adding useful links here. Thank you.
Yes I am more than happy to keep myself company in regard to this, or indeed most things.
Here is another analysis of Muzak. Clearly I am quite taken by this. I urge each and every one of you to step into the elevator. There is nothing to be afraid of. Everything is going to be fine. It all turns out nicely in the ending. Just relax...
I think we are supposed to be hearing it, not listening to it.
There was a lot of theory in this which I wasn't aware of. I've actively sought out bizarre music, but this stuff tops the lot! Yes, if you want better music, listen to Esquivel. This is different. It was huge. We are talking about millions of people exposed to it on a daily basis.
I think musicians on a whole reacted quite badly to Musak. Philip Glass didn't like it as far as I can tell. And there was some has been headbanger who wanted to buy the company for 10 million so he could shut it down. Musicians can be very conservative and closed minded. They just weren't ready for it!
I've had this on for 24 hours now. I'm thinking I need to instal some speakers into the ceiling of every room and make this a permanent thing.

I find muzak fascinating! I haven't found the time to check out the links here.
My general view on music is that its very nature is elusive. You can't say clearly what it's all about really. Loungey stuff played in an elevator is as much music as any classical symphony, and even though we may know clearly what tells those two things apart, it's incredibly difficult to explain that in words. _________________ Antimon's Window @soundcloud@Flattrhome - you can't explain music
