It's now time for me to give back to the community. This is an amalgamation of two separate designs I learnt from online. The oscillator is from the Caspar Electronics Drone Lab Mk. 2, while the triangle wave out and subsequent preamp for it came from the dlbelectronics.com site.

Although working out how to lay out and make something is half the fun, it can sometimes be nice to solder by numbers. Hope this little post of mine can help out those of you out there who are lurking and trying to get started.

EDIT: Needs revision. Will hopefully be able to update this within a week or two.

Thanks. Do you have a link to more info on the triangle converter? It just looks like a linear inverter to me. I don't understand how it makes a triangle.

This needs some revision. I was running it into my sound card last night and the pre amp stage needs some tweaking. I'm going to do some more bread boarding then do another build.

Issues that need to be looked at:
- The input pins and not the output pins on the 40106 should be hooked up to the inverter pre-amp. The timing cap charging and discharging is what creates the triangle wave
- Using a bigger cap will yield a smoother pseudo triangle wave. Need to mess around with increasing that and decreasing pot sizes.
- 2M resistor on the feedback loop for the inverter pre-amp is a little off. Way too much amplification. Trim pots in there will be best.

Did you ever work out the problems on this?
It seems promising.

I did actually! I will need to dig it up though. It's currently on my work computer, where I wont be for another week. I'll try to get it uploaded after I go back. Part of the revisions I made were because I got my hands on a bunch of much larger film caps too.

good morning,

that 4049 and stuff looks a bit like the parts i have on my breadbord at the moment. (from testing distortions ... )

so i breadboarded the 100k -> 1u -> 20k (22k) -> inverter with R 2M parallel -> 1u. I got Square wave out (running it on 5V).

i got some Tri-waves with a config like: 1u -> 22k -> inverter with 47n parallel -> 1u. (this work more like a filter -> cuts the high freq out)

but i will test this later .... now i need to drive the kids to grandma...

That's one of the biggest errors in the layout! The fake triangle wave comes from where the purple connections are on that layout NOT from the dark blue! The other errors are all in the values. I remember that I bumped up the cap values to get a better triangle wave output. It's still not perfect though, it gets a bit mishapen at higher frequencies.

If you guys can hang on till the 10th I can get my better updated version uploaded!
