Seen on 99musik.se.

Little Bits (http://littlebits.cc) makes small electronic modules that do various things and are easy to connect together. What Korg is doing in collaboration with them seems to be some sort of tiny modular synthesizer system with MS-20 filter and other stuff.

I think it's pretty cute!

It reminds me of Les' EM Synth.

I was a bit confused at first as Little Bits has been available in the US for a while yet others are excited about it, as if it wasn't available in the US yet.

My understanding is this will be Korg's special version of Little Bits that lets you make a little modular synth. That does sound like it would be fun.

It's kind of a "build your own Monotron" kit, except you're free to experiment with modules just like on a "adult modular".

I've had some real fun with my littleBits kit, since buying it just before Christmas.

OK - so it's not exactly bursting with phat bass vibes, but I've plenty of other stuff that'll do that and have been really impressed with the wide range of sounds and textures that it can produce.

I've never owned a modular synth before; I love the way this encourages you to just plug stuff together in any order it will fit (the modules are keyed to prevent misconnections) and see what comes out.

So impressed was I, that I was going to buy another one. Then littleBits announced a competition with a top prize of a $500 voucher to spend in their shop. So I've posted my entry here - which should give you some idea of what it can do.

My only beef with the company is that they have no EU distributor, leading to excessive delivery charges and VAT. If they got that particular act together, they could probably do a better deal for their EU customers; but - like so many US companies - they seem to be a bit complacent about the 'foreign' market; they can make enough money from the US, so why try harder?
