I'm trying to execute playmidi.ck from the current (1.3.2) distribution on Windows 7 (32-bit). Despite all files apparently present in the right locations,
miniAudicle issues the following errors:

[chuck](VM): sporking incoming shred: 1 (playmidi.ck)...
MidiFileIn: file (C:/Users/tanner/Documents/Development/ChucK/chuck-1.3.2.0/examples/midi/bwv772.mid) does not appear to be a MIDI file!
unable to open MIDI file: 'C:/Users/tanner/Documents/Development/ChucK/chuck-1.3.2.0/examples/midi/bwv772.mid'

Any ideas?

I was inspired by your post to get the new chuck. I played around with midi routing scripts in version 1.2.1.3 which doesn't have the example you mentioned.

On a Win XP PC using the new version (chimera), I got this:
Code:
[chuck]:(2:SYSTEM): running virtual machine...
[chuck](VM): sporking incoming shred: 1 (playmidi.ck)...
MidiFileIn: file (L:/ChuckChimera/examples/midi/bwv772.mid) does not appear to be a MIDI file!
unable to open MIDI file: 'L:/ChuckChimera/examples/midi/bwv772.mid'

I will look at bwv772.mid (1) to make sure it is there and (2) to see if it loads into a midi sequencer.

(1) Its there. (2) It loads into SONAR (and plays). I also tried another midi file--same problem: file is found but mini audicle reports "it does not appear to me a MIDI file."

The error message is not from the playmidi.ck script, so to find the error you might have to check the source code.

This looks like a bug in the ChucK application. I think there's a better chance at getting good replies for this kind of stuff if you post a question to the chuck users mailing list:
