Hi all

I got a new MacBook Pro for Christmas but it seems I cannot make the Nord Modular G2 Editor work with it...

I connect the Nord Modular G2 to the computer with USB, I turn on the editor, but nothing happens...

Is anyone else having the same problem?

With my old computer it works well, but unfortunately that one suffers from this problem - http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4088
If you got a MacBook in 2010, check that, cause when the 3 year extended warranty finished on mine, that wasn't known and now I'm basically screwed...

Thanks in advance,
Best

Paulo

You have two options:
Codeweavers Crossover. It works for me for several non-Midi applications

or a virtual Machine.

I have a 2010 MBP which I will be selling as soon as I get all my software
migrated to my new (refurbished) MBP running 10.9

I didn't have the video problems mentioned in that Apple link though.

I have a 15" 2013 model running 10.9.1 and it's working fine here.

Is it one of the latest retina models?

I can get the program to run, but it just doesn't detect any of my Nord Modulars...
In my old MacBook Pro, I don't need to do anything and it works right away... :S

Can you use ANY program with midi capability to talk to any synth over midi?

I can use my Maschine.

I had to upgrade to the latest driver or else it would crash my computer if I connected it to the computer with the computer already on... :S

But that was basically the only other problem I had with my computer so far...

Can it be a change in the hardware then?

Mine really doesn't detect the synth, but the Maschine works well...
And both USB ports in the computer seem to work well...

Do I need to install something more other than the editor?
I only installed the editor...

Are you sure you have the cables connected correctly to the synth?
it wouldn't be the first time this was the issue which kept the host from seeing
the computer. Remember- the Nord Modular has two sets of DIN connectors.
One is for midi, the other is for the editor/control.
They are not interchangeable.

I'm talking about the G2.
I didn't mention that in the title cause it was in the G2 section.

I think the cable was well placed and I tried it twice, but will check it again tomorrow...

Was just wondering if it could be necessary to instal something else too...

The original modular, I wasn't able to make it work with my older MacBook Pro with OS10.6...

The only intel Mac I could get it to work with was my previous MacBook Pro that had OS10.5 installed.

Since the newer one (with OS10.6) made the synth froze, I didn't dare trying to test it with my newest MacBook Pro with OS 10.9, but I don't think I can even install it (guess I'd need some older OS).

Sorry about that. I've been bouncing back & forth between the G1 & G2 forums

Sorry,but I have to ask:
Have you tried the obvious, like swapping cables?
You're not going through a USB hub either are you?
Also what OS version are you running on the G2?

I just connect the G2 to the computer with a USB cable (the original one).

In my "old" mid-2010 MacBook Pro with OS 10.6.8, it works well.

Disconnecting it and connecting it to my new late-2013 MacBook Pro with OS 10.9.1, it doesn't do anything... :S

I used the same cable and the same version of the editor in my computer, version 1.62...

Are you using the same Mac OS?
I'd guess a more recent version of the same OS shouldn't make a big change...

Yep 10.9.1 and V 1.62 of the editor.
I don't have any other ideas as to why it doesn't work.

I could make it work now.

Only thing I had to do was to use the same USB-cable I am using with the Maschine.

With the original Nord Modular G2 cable it doesn't seem to work, but it works with my older MacBook Pro.

Anyone has an idea on why this happens?

I have no idea.
The G2 has USB 1.1 and your new MBP has USB 3,
but they should be (more or less) backward compatible.
I haven't had any problem with mine.I still have to wonder if there is a
defect with the one cable.
Can you use either cable with Maschine with no problem?

I never knew the G2 used USB 1.1. I understand that it doesn't need the speed of USB2, but is it really that much cheaper to use USB 1.1?
Or- is it because the FW for USB 1.1 is easier??

I dunno,I was surprised to see that in the specs on Clavia's site. The G2 came out 4 years after USB 2 came out.Maybe it was a cost thing, but you wouldn't think it would be THAT much more.
