| Since now the G2X is no longer in production, and I believe the PCBs to be the same, I would love to see the internal extra G2X mod wheel connectors enabled on the G2. Then I can add a joystick! _________________

| Yes, I've been thinking about this as well. The microcontroller used doesn't have a built in AtoD so it must be external. I count 6 sources on a standard G2, Mod Wheel
 Pitch Stick
 Aftertouch
 Pedal 1
 Pedal 2
Volume knob (notice you cant change volume during patch load?)

Since multi channel AtoD would probably be 8 channel, the other two G2X wheels are probably connected to the last two channels.

Maybe the G2X has a small extra board with buffers for the extra modwheels.

Along with the pedal input, that would give three CV inputs.

| This would be very nice! Maybe someone can look inside a G2X to see how the extra wheels are connected?

| Nice Wout!
Seems like a littel extra pcb board with no extra electronics? (just a board to mount connectors?) Or am i missing something.

| There is no electronics on the board, only connections.
Connections are made on the PanelControlBoard, if open, at the top the PitchStick, (backside of the RotaryDial) and the large red 10 pins connector of the three Wheels.

Two important remarks! In my machine the ControlPanelBoard is hand labeled as G2X! It's also a preproduction model, so there can be differences!

All pots are, you can guess, 10K.

| Up to recently I had a NM! also and popped it open and wired it up to have a joystick but never got the time or nerve to put the sheet metal on the drill press. I sold it to a gent who will be doing that and a bunch more to it. It is a lot simpler to add mods to the NM1 since all the main pots are just providing voltages. I once asked on this board about the connectors on the G2 and someone said the programming was different on it from the G2X so one could't just connect to the header. Different ROMs i would assume - hence the G2X sticker on the pcb. Hopefully it is something that can be changed with a flash/software update on the unit. If so I doubt it would be much of a hassle for Clavia to do it. I can't think of any other differences between the units other than the keyboard whose velocity curves etc may be much different from the G2's but that seems trivial. They could even sell the little PCB if they wanted to.

 Hi guys,

 Any devellopment on this subject?
"How to add in G2 one Doepfer JoyStick (Alps 2x10k), using those connectors where the G2X's extra wheels are connected"

It seems to me if firmware tests the hardware for detection at boot time,
it should be no problem to have 3 octave or 5 octave keyboard.
Firmware should deal with it identifying the correct one, right?
Unless they made a specific version of firmware for each model.

Wout: could you be so kind and send some detailed pictures of the insides of your G2X for comparation?

 best regards,
 Jaime

 Hi ersatzplanet

Did you manage to achieve this?
Do you have already enabled those 2 internal G2X connectors on the G2?
How far did you go on this? Is it doable?

 best regards,
 JaFre

I have never heard a way to do this yet. I believe that it is all in the operating system and firmware and would have to be changed there. I just don't have the chops to go hacking that sort of stuff so I doubt that I will ever find a way. Really too bad since the connectors are there doing nothing.

| I recently opened my G2 and looked for some place on the PCB where the additional wheels could be connected but I didn't find anything that looked like it. So it would be nice if Wout could re-upload the pics since they seem to be dead right now.

| Hey
  	  | Quote: | | The G2X panel board has an A/D chip with two more channels as the 3 oct G2 key, to handle the two extra global wheels. These global wheels cannot be simply added to the 3 oct G2 key, as it lacks A/D channels to read them. |
