I am designing a 5 octave MIDI controlled analogue sawtooth oscillator, which uses a microcontroller and a DAC to control the pitch. I have access to an oscilloscope. My question is, what are the most important or interesting testing parameters? and how can I test them?

From what I have considered:

Note Accuracy: Measure the frequency at the output of the DAC and Oscillator, compare with Ideal. I have also read something about LSB, but am not sure how to test this.

distortion?

Note range and playability: apart from documenting that each note can be played and that the code is working correctly, I am not sure how else this can be tested

Expected amplitude: I small deviation wont have a huge affect on the sound, so surely this isn't that important?

DAC bit shape: obviously the DAC will want to output clean bits, is there a way of measuring and testing?

I have designed it to only reach 5 octaves, since there is no exponential converter. so this can't really be tested

As you can see, I am not really on the right track. I just want a list of the most vital points that should be tested to analyse the quality of the project Smile
