Hey guys, hope this is the right place for this post.

So I should start out by saying I have literally zero experience with any kind of electronics, beyond turning things on and using them. So that said I have fallen for Xfer's serum its been my main synth for 3 years now and everything else i use tends to pale in comparison for me.
I have a dream of creating a custom bit of hardware to control serum, with a touchscreen for editing the lfo and envelope shapes and possibly even drawing wavetables, I understand this may need me to edit some of serums coding (i'm going to copy this post over to serums forum Steve who designed it seems to be really keen on helping everyone as much as he can) but I just have no idea where to even start with the hardware side. I guess its going to be midi focused but alot of what I would want it to do is possibly beyond midi.
So i'm looking for advice, places to start, good literature and tutorials that will point me in the right direction, its going to be a big project probably taking a good year or two but it sounds fun anything you can think to help me I would really appreciate.

(To give a little taster of what I'm thinking the waldorf quantum is pretty close, but a touch screen more knobs and faders and no keyboard)

Look forward to hearing from you all,
Paul.
